Is it worth having an lpg system fitted (we're planning on going to France) and I've just been told by a gaslow fitter that most of the suppliers have gone and that all lpg will be fazed out in the UK by 2024 and . Is this true!

Download the “Autogas” and see for yourself just how many LPG autogas stations there are in the UK. There are even more in France........

Definitely a very big "NO"
Edited to add.... try doing a search.. there has been many many threads and discussions on this subject👍👍

I've just fitted a gasit system very pleased with purchase and reassured by the many discussions on here about availability and sustainability of LPG.
Gaslow at Loughborough have recently fitted an LPG pump amongst may alternative suppliers coming to the market to replace the reducing fuel filling station based lpg supply in this country. France and Europe LPG still widely available
For me a new user I have no concerns about supply.

I saw a post on a boating forum that said the same about LPG being phased out next year so it's a widespread story. They're being adversely affected by calor stopping the small cylinders as lockers are designed for that size.

There are four or five autogas stations in Calais alone.
We have sometimes had to drive a few miles to get lpg but usually just top up in passing if we get a bit low. Generally if half empty, I fill up around 20L. 2×11kg Alugas.

Incidentally I passed the Golden Cross garage half an hour ago. They are working on the canopy yet again and access to the LPG pump seems to be blocked by a van and some other junk. You may be able to access one side of it.

You'll be able to find more autogas suppliers in France than Calor dealers. ;)

That's handy to know. As a result of your recent post saying that it had been reinstated I had intended going that way yesterday and topping up on gas when taking my m/h out for its fortnightly 50 mile run, but ended up having fish 'n chips on Newhaven harbour quay. (y)

I think the Polegate treacle mine one may be working.
I could do with an intestinal gas adapter, don't think I'd need to pay for gas again.

Had the fitter just been sacked or was the dismissal shortly after your conversation? 😀

Thanks everyone for this, I thought it might be the case, but it threw me when I asked for an estimate and was told it was a best not to do it!

LPG itself will remain available for many years to come. It's too widely used particularly for bulk in heating and cooking for buildings.

What is evolving is the method of supply, especially in the UK.

Smaller sized supplier filled LPG bottles at various retailers will disappear, aka the Calor announcement.

Autogas LPG at UK garages will become more challenging to locate. Calor ceased their supply a couple of years ago as they ended their Autogas Ltd partnership with Shell (the Shell garages with LPG now are independent franchises, usually with a Flogas branded pump). Flogas seem to struggle to supply particularly over winter when they prioritise heating. As pumps and installations cost to maintain end of life is unlikely to be replaced and the MFG group of garages (which I think also includes some Asda and Morrisons) have proposed to withdraw.

But there will remain specialist suppliers from pumps enabling refillable cylinders. They may be further apart and harder to locate. Lower volumes, even on each transaction, means overheads will be higher regardless of the base cost of the LPG, and so we must expect to pay a little more. It should still be more convenient to have a refillable than the expense of the prefilled manufacturer bottle.

Sure I read Dacia will not be importing these models to UK.👍

So many homes in rural Scotland have to rely on lpg for heating and cooking. I can't see it being phased out in the foreseeable future. LPG pumps may be harder to find but will still be available.

My local gas depot in West Cumbria tells me lots of dual fuel Dacia's are using them for LPG. They have no intentions of getting rid of the autogas pump anytime soon 👍

It's definitely getting more challenging. I can't get any from any of the 3 most local stations to me in Somerset, one of which is getting the pump removed and the others just can't get the gas delivered. Just needs more careful planning now when we are away.

Some of the LPG places that supply for domestic use have LPG pumps.

We usually fill up either on our return from a trip (either at Powburn on the A697) or at Johnstons Oils in Newtown St Boswells. If we are touring we fill up when we see LPG or use the app to find it once we get down to the orange sector on the gauge. Best to phone ahead if using the app to make sure the place actually has LPG.

They did import them but have now stopped.

The advantage with a motorhome is that it has wheels and an engine. So if there is no LPG where you are you can use the wheels and engine to just find some when you are travelling. We just fill up everytime we spot a place that sells it. We also use two apps, FillLPG for the UK and myLPG.eu for Europe. Never had any problems finding it on our UK and European travels.

Many campsites are installing LPG refilling pumps also

If sites install a pay at pump system for LPG and users learn how to connect, fill and disconnect rather than an attendant having to down tools and pump for a £5 top up then there is a small profit in in for the supplier, Obviously a big investment but could pay back ok.

I have never had an attendant down tools and come out to fill my gas.!!!!
Always self service!!

Yes well done for all those that self service, When last on the NC500 chasing LPG on the apps approx 9 out off 10 locations had removed pumps and when asked why = because they were small garages and mechanics were having to down tools to serve a few lts for top ups and or take payments, if and once card payment self service pumps get installed then a small profit may create a trend.

So were all their petrol and diesel pumps self-service and pay at the pump and just their autogas pumps attended then?
