lpg - is there a general shortage?

Brownhills at Newark are waiting for a delivery.
They can't advise when that will be, they are in the queue.
Coming over to Newark from Pershore there were 2 garages that were selling lpg, well their sales signs were lit up ,onecwas 92.9 and the other 102.9 so still some available. My bottles ate full so dodnt need any but we shall be on the lookout after the Newark meet ,towards Hereford next week.

We've got a shell garage up here in Northumberland which is actually cheaper than my local Morrisons, filled up last Monday after a night away ready for the next trip, and on the Tuesday the pumps were shut off and I believe they are removing them!

Grrr

I’ve been looking at the possibility of buying 47kg bottles @ £59 and =63 pence per litre, transferring the gas over to my refillable gas low bottles, I do know that some people de-cant it by inverting the new bottle but not sure if that would transfer any rust/muck from the steel bottles also would the 80% fill still shut off.
it would be a simple task to make a frame to invert a 47kg above the filling point,
the pressure in the bottle used for filling by a little bit of warm water?
So let’s have some suggestions on transferring Lpg into refillable bottles (SAFLEY)

There was a post about a garage forecourt company covering about 700 lpg pumps getting permission to remove them in groups and replacing them with fast chargers.

The son of the guy who supplied my last 19kg bottle mentioned that a lot of the 47kg bottles he gets back, still had some liquid in the bottom of them. He was asking about reclaiming it as he knew I had refilled Coleman style cylinders for my son's Jetboil.
I found him a double ended hose on eBay and he suspended the partially empty cylinder from his telehandler and let it drain into another one sat on some scales. He said it took a lot longer than he thought to transfer the remains (over an hour) and the jury's still out over whether it was worthwhile ?
I haven't seen the hose and don't know what diameter it is and he was doing this last month when the temperatures were quite low, so that might have some affect on things ?
I warm the donor cylinder up with warm water when I refill my 200g cylinders, which speeds things along.
Before the H&S brigade get on their high horses, I've worked with relatively high pressure cylinders all my life and have attended and passed an insurance required course on refilling bespoke propane cylinders and understand the risks. If you have any doubts, or don't have the ability, don't even think about trying it.

Shell introduced a policy a couple of years ago of removing LPG in favour of EV chargers, this must be one of the last.
You got some just in time

Our esso garage in Grantham appears to have some. £1.??/l (cant remember, just that it was over £1)

Paid 99p yesterday at BP in Whitstable

Well if there is no pump lpg available people will find ways to refill cylinders one way or another and at 63 p per litre from a 47kg bottle it will happen sooner rather than later.

We filled up at Dingwall yesterday, topped up the underslung 92p per litre 6.42 litres costing £5.96. It did say on the pump the filling of gas cylinders is not allowed
Not sure what that meant.

It’s probably a privately owned Shell garage as it was only the corporate owned stations that removed their LPG pumps so still some shell sites with LPG just as there is BP .

If you are heading for the M20 to get to the tunnel, there are two locations that usually have no problems.

1. On the M25 turn off at junction 3 and head towards London, round the Swanley bypass (A20). Come off at the first roundabout and come back down the A20 towards the M25 and try the BP garage at A20 Swanley, Sidcup DA14 5JA. I generally ring first to make sure they have some, but they usually have. 0208 302 9822. Left and right pumps. About a two mile detour.

2. On the M20, come off at Junction 4 and head towards West Malling on the A228. Pick up the A20 and over one roundabout and the BP garage is on the left. 265 London Rd, West Malling ME19 5AE. Never failed to get a fill of LPG, but I always ring first. 01732 84000 (cashier option). I think that there is only a right side pump, but I might be wrong. Also about two miles detour.
