We have two Gaslow cyclinders fitted in our motorhome and are off to Morocco for a couple of months (as long as we like it😀)
What are our cheapest options for obtaining gas once there? I really don’t want to carry another cylinder with us but is that the only option and get it changed in Morocco when it runs out.
Unless of course lpg is freely available which I don’t think it is.
Thanks

On a campsite close to Agadir at the mo which helps save gas, spotted these burners @£10 - 120 mad ex gas bottles which are super easy to find. Super compact and easy to store .. also local regulators for the larger bottles @£5 if you are bringing a portable stove from the UK .
We tend to live on Salads and local rest so we are not cooking much also brought a small electric 2k heater to take the chill of the van in the morning ( elec supply fantastic on this site)
Food for thought

Does every property with electricity that has a fridge, TV, washing machine etc have surge suppression at the point of entry to the property? If not surely they would continually need to have there domestic appliances repaired frequently?
I suspect Moroccans domestic appliances are a little more robust than camper stuff. Although I think some of the problem is the campsites amateur wiring done by people who claim to be professionals.

jongood. Unlucky with the rear blowout Jon? :( Did you change it yourself, or did someone come out to you?

Cheers,

Jock. :)
It was a place with a wide hardshoulder, reasonably level and with good visibility so liftedr it with the jacks and changed myself, here is a pic of me Torqueing, once on the spot, second 20 yards down the road, 3rd time on the next service station

Yes we keep one of those as a backup. Unbelievable the difference between the price of the Moroccan bottle and the proper camping gaz one.

Might be an idea to also buy the wind deflector if you're liking it.

The other alternative is to buy the Gaslow/Gasit adaptor to attach the Moroccan bottle via the refill point with an inline filter if you prefer. We’ve done this for 3 trips and it’s worked well, the upside being Moroccan gas is cheap as chips.
Can you please post a link to the adapter with filter?

You wont find an LPG pump in Morocco. What most people do is get as much as possible in at Los Barrios and once they're getting down that feed in a Moroccan bottle via a decent quality bottle regulator with a french thread, through the bbq point, keeping the bottle outside.

The other option is to ask them to refill one of your bottle by hanging one of theirs up and connecting them together. The downside of this method is that Moroccan gas contains a lot of oil which some of the bulkhead regulators dont like.

Don't forget, the ehu supply is not great either, so if you don't have much solar then a voltage stabiliser is a good investment.

Great place to visit this time of year though, we crossed yesterday, having a lazy day at Asilah today. Weather very pleasant, looking forward to it getting warmer as we progress south.
I had 8 months in Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal last year and had absolutely no problem getting my gas bottles refilled.

Any boat club can generally do it as they refill bottles from sailing yachts all around the world.

They have all the necessary adaptors and an onsite LPG tank and pump.

Many motorhome repair garages will refill gas bottles as in the photo attached which was taken in Morocco.

One hears stories about African LPG being greasy or oily.

I filled an 11kg bottle like the one in the photo about every 2 to 3 weeks by the inversion process and had zero trouble with contamination.

One hears the same stories about diesel fuel being poor quality.

As an ex-Oil and Gas Project Manager Engineer constructing Oil and Gas refineries for part of my career in Australia, Asia and the Middle East, I can tell you that Exxon, Repsol, BP, Shell and many other companies buy their diesel feed stock from one major refinery within the country they operate in, and only mix in their additives.

So, essentially, whatever you buy will essentially be the same base product.

Bottle regs won't be a problem but bulkhead and especially secumotion won't like it.
