I lost my wallet with a few payments and drivers licence and a sim card probably around the Sao Domingos Mine. All cards frozen no problem. My wife uses Polar Steps app on our travels and it showed that we had travelled to a campsite in Marbella (someone had tried to use the (sim card). What are the chances of me receiving my stuff back? I say unlikely my wife has more faith in human beings😀. My address is on my drivers licence. TBC.

Depends if the wallet was lost or stolen.. If stolen, nightly unlikely although you may get a demand for money to return things as a second scam attempt.

The people you can trust don't try to use your sim cards or carry your wallet hundreds of miles away across borders.

A good few years ago I received a parcel containing my Mum 's purse which someone had found. She had left my name and address inside in case of loss. There was no return address on the parcel so no way of finding the honest person who had returned a purse intact as far as we are aware - a good amount of cash in it as well.

Mum denied having lost it!!!! I had to insist she checked her handbag then had to spend a day going down to return the purse. Mum did give me £10 to cover my costs (only a £40 return train fare). She thought there would be enough change from the £10 to buy a hot drink on the train......

I put an ad in both Mum's local papers to thank the finder.

Interestingly there is an article on lost wallets on the BBC website today. They dropped 10 wallets in Belfast with contact details and were surprised that they had a call for all 10 from people who found them. It seems we're in general a lot more honest than most would think

We were visiting the Sunday Market at Peurta de Mazarron a few years back together with some friends.

We had been before so warned them to be careful of pickpockets.

Our friend Joan was a soft touch and seeing a beggar on the floor in the middle of the market, took her purse out and gave him a few coins unaware that he might have been the stooge.

A few minutes later Joan went to buy something, and found her purse missing. Searched frantically with no success, cancelled her cards etc and walked to the police station to report it.

There was a queue in the station but Joan was approached by an elderly Spanish chap who handed her her purse.

He explained that he had found the purse on the ground at the market, taken it to the police station to hand it in, and recognized Joan from her driving licence photo.

Everything was intact other than the cash!

Joan is very much a Hyacinth Bucket type and nearly smothered him with a hug

I found a wallet at Oxford services. The hotel I was staying at was in the same town as the owner. His address was on the driving licence

I got to the hotel and called him using one of his business cards

There was some interesting items in the wallet including some very exclusive ID and access cards

He was very happy to meet.me to collect the wallet but was surprised at some of the questions I asked him about the contents
Once I was happy he was the owner
I handed it over

He opened it and took out all the notes not counting them and insisted that I took them as a thank you

Thankyou I was £120 richer and he avoided having to explain that he had lost his ID and access keys to restricted areas.

I never expected a reward, but was very grateful

Hi, Not stealing the thread, (edit alas too late) just a comment on what do you do?

A couple of weeks ago near Swindon called in a caravan/motorhome dealers for a look see. Anyway as leaving there was a old clasic Bentley in the carpark, superb exterior maroon paint, just had to have a look.

On closer look drivers window part open, gloves & bits on the drivers seat AND keys in the ignition!!!!!

Back to dealers ask do you know who's it is, NO. So opened the door took the keys and handed to the dealers reception.

Hope whoever was grateful.

They may have been disappointed hoping it would disappear ;)

if they had put a note to that effect would phoned a friend as we had the Grandchildren with us.

But assumed a person of modest years who may not be used to parking, other than in a storage location and therefore not needing to secure the vehicle against admirers who have noticed a small but total insurance loss error.

I found a wallet containing cards and quite a few hundred (maybe thousands) pounds. This was in the mid 1990's so a lot of money then. We were leaving an orienteering event. Competitors scattered in all directions going home.

We lived in Sheffield, the owner, who I eventually managed to contact by phone around 10 pm, lived in St Albans. He'd put it on the roof of the car when he got changed and forgot it. He insisted on driving up to get it. We stayed up until he arrived at about 2 am. He refused a drink, said a quick thanks, and set off to drive back.

We thought we might get a thank you card in the post, but zilch.

When we were wandering around Peterborough whilst the Camos system was being installed, we found a wallet on the pavement. The old cop shop nearby was no longer there so we popped into a local shop. The owner found the owners address, popped it an envelope, put a stamp on and asked us to put it the postbox around the corner. We did. Hope the owner got it back ok.

They may well pay forward our act of kindness.

Many years ago, I found a wallet in the Heelas store in Reading. There were cards and about £50 in cash. I found a telephone number and rang it. To cut a story short, I spoke to the owner who said he’d call to collect it. Wouldn’t give me the address so I could post it. Anyway, 30 years passed and he never took any steps to collect it. Still have it.

If the owner could form an orderly queue…………..🙂

Lost mine twice over the years, each time it's been found and handed back.
I found one in the toilets, in I think M&S Peterborough, I handled it in to their help desk.

Hope you've swapped the notes for new types each time they've changed 😂

When I was a student in Bristol I found a wallet one day.

It had the owners details in it so I posted it to him.

About 3 weeks later I got a lovely letter of thanks from him along with £200

That was a lot of money to me then. Apparently the wallet had £80 in it but I hadn’t counted it.

You never know, it might turn up.

Just slightly off topic a good few years ago I found myself following a car on the A34 out of Manchester in a queue of moving traffic. The car in front had an open business attaché case on the roof and as we drove along papers were blowing out of it. I flashed my headlights to get the attention of the driver several times but all I got in response were several V signs through an opened window! So I gave up trying. I would love to have been a fly on the wall when the driver discovered his "error"!

I found a tablet ( electronic not eaty thing) in Doncaster.
Found out who owned it by getting into it.
Got in touch and arranged to return it .
It cost me and not a word of thanks from the owner.
Wish id chucked it in the bin after all the messing around it cost me .

I found a wallet with money and a student ID card on a bus back from Norwich. I took it to the local police station who discovered the owner’s phone number. It transpired that she had lost it 3 times that month 🙄

I found a very nice jewelled ring in Beccles and handed that over to the police. A month later I I received a cheque for £80 from a lady who said that the ring had belonged to her mother and was of great sentimental value. A moral dilemma: should I cash the cheque? 😇

I did the same with my folder once, it was the last call otherwise I needed the folder for the address. After I got home and realised, I drove back and found it by the first corner.

Years ago, I was going home from work. After about 5 miles, through a town, up a steep hill, and along a reasonably fast winding road I noticed something flying through the air in my rear view mirror. I stopped and investigated, to find it was my wallet which I had put on the roof before I drove off.

I drove off several years ago after struggling to get one of our kids in their seat with my clear specs on the roof after swapping to prescription sunnies at least I had a spare clear pair as an optometrist. Until the next day when I did the same with the spares! Humans all make mistakes!
