Looking to rent a motorhome

I’d recommend hiring in France, or Germany. I certainly wouldn’t recommend seeing the uk via motorhome.
We hired several before we bought.

We found the best place was Germany, it's a lot cheaper than the UK and you get much better motorhomes for the money.

We used to load up the car with all that was needed (so we did not have to hire bedding, towels, cutlery, cooking stuff, deckchairs etc)
leave work on a Friday night, catch the overnight ferry from Harwich (40 miles from the M25)
Spend the night in a nice cabin.
Arrive in Holland in the morning and be at the hire places in Dusseldorf by lunch time to pick up the van and do the hand over.
Park the car on the van hire place and be on our first site an hour or two down the road by 5pm.

Personally, I'd book something up for next May to September.
You will have a lot more fun in Germany in the summer (in a nicer motorhome) than you will in the UK in the middle of winter.
(I'd guess it may be cheaper as well)

Just go are a big popular hire company and not far from London...

We hired twice in Germany at the time it was ½ the price of the uk.
and twice the motorhome!

We found the German hire companies only use them for two seasons before selling on.
They were mostly middle of the (german) range motorhomes made by the likes of EuroMobil, Detlef's, Burstner and Hymer.
All of which would be classed as top of the range in the UK.

They also came with many optional extras such as the awning, TV, SatNav, decent interior fittings etc. as they obviously had their eye on the resale value.

We hired once in the UK.
From a reputable national rental company

We were the first hirers of the motorhome.
No manuals or even a hand over book!

They told us the gas was full.
One bottle was empty, the other ran out first night.
Luckily we had gone to Snowdonia, an area I knew well, which meant I also knew the only place in North Wales where you could get gas on a bank holiday weekend was a farmers warehouse on an industrial estate in a small town. Otherwise we would not even have been able to boil a kettle for 4 days.

We found all the tyres had very different pressures in each wheel, which we solved.
The fuel tank was nearly empty when it should have been full (which we spotted before we left).
The TV did not work (not wired up properly!)
There was no EHU cable (So we now have a spare on the van we bought later!)

And the oil level was so low the red warning light came on after 50 miles.
The hire place had no idea what the problem was, they also told us there was no dipstick.
Luckily we met a delivery driver in the petrol station who told us where the dipstick was and also where to put in the oil and what to buy.

Bottom line is I'd think twice about renting in the UK again, as the German experience was the exact opposite.
