Just about to get the motorhome professionaly cleaned.Would like to put a good breathable full cover on afterwards as I am surrounded by trees dropping you know what all over my pride and joy. There are loads of covers on the market , many about the same price. Then there are Protec covers for loads more . Would really appreciate some opinions from anyone with any experience of these things before I shell out. Cheers!

cover for the roof but air around the van.
+1
I always cringe when I see a (possibly classic) car on a driveway tightly wrapped in a tarp.

Absolutely the best way to encourage moisture retention, is the prevention of air circulation. Likewise, vehicles parked on a moisture laden environment ( like grass ) are just begging for rust problems. Ventilation is included in building regs to prevent moisture retention.

When you have paid to have paintwork repaired after a cover rubbed the paint and in another case hid damage from a tree, you would never use one

Get a top cover, I put a plastic basket with pipe lagging round the edges to stop it rubbing covering the bits that stick out and use foam to create a hump in the middle so that water doesn’t pool and you get ventilation.

An awful word of warning ! We had a lovely full cover from Amazon - breathable etc. BUT - I am in the habit of running the van engine every few weeks during the winter, hopefully to keep in in good order. I did this without removing the cover (what an idiot, I hear you say). When the cover came off we had a lovely black, greasy van, which no amount of cleaning would remove completely. Cost us over £1000 to get it professionally cleaned etc.
The cover is still in perfect condition, but I daren't put it on again in case any black still remains inside it.

Motorhome covers are best described as a bit Marmite on here however if used on a freshly washed motorhome & secured well then the Maypole breathable ones are excellent (see our experience here https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/winter-covers-for-motor-homes.180115/#post-2934348 ) & generally last around 3 years. Searching on the forum will bring up lots of feedback both positive & negative.
Totally agree with Wombles. We use a Maypole cover and have a small oil filled rad inside for the winter. Works for us.

Try looking at Maypole, as look top quality and sensibly priced. Motorhome Matt Sims endorses and sells loads of them 👌

Hope you've washed the cover as well 🙈 Also you shouldn't keep starting a cold engine, or leave it running as it will kill your cat and dpf. It's a great big no, no 🤷‍♂️

Agree that Maypole covers are good (see above) if used with care but endorsements of products by influencers that they sell or are in partnership with should be treated with caution! Would, however, rate the shared experiences of the many fellow Funsters who have owned & used products.

Protec fan here; bought one for our Carado T334 back in 2015, used it for 8 winters with absolutely no problems at all. We remove bedding and open fridge (of course) but we don't open cupboards or windows. There are roof air vents above bed, toilet and shower and this gives sufficient airflow. They are tailor made to your moho so a good fit and no flapping. Never seen any evidence of abrasion. So pleased with it that when we changed to a smaller moho earlier this year we've bought another one.
I agree with those that say go away somewhere warm in the winter but we have a son in Brisbane so we are down under for a couple of months, safe in the knowledge that the moho is wrapped up and cosy.

We bought a cover. It fitted well and kept the van nice and clean. It had a door so we could get in and out for maintenance purposes and a clear panel so the solar panel went on working.

It also flatted off the paint work and wore through the material in a couple of places in just one winter. Contact with the supplier just got me sent some off-cuts of pipe insulation and some material to patch up the holes.

It's now in the loft where it will remain.

Well all I can say is if you're adamant on using one get a good one, but you will have to pay through the nose for it. Look's like Protec or Maypole would be my choice, but to honest I wouldn't bother. Just wash it with wash n wax, put 2 x cap fulls of Mer in bucket then leave van wet, then apply Mer all over and leave untill spring, re-wash it off and hey presto your van is like brand new. You can polish again in the summer months, apply alway's on a damp micro fibre cloth for best results.
Produced in Germany for last 45 years, try it as you won't use anything else after this . . .

I've been using MER since it was first produced, initially on the boats and then caravans. I have been using Autoglym Resin polish of more recent times though.
