Looking for a new van? Pull your finger out

Question: How much is the van worth?
i dont know you are the one with Glasses guide, how much will it cost to replace it?
So am i now undervalued for insurance?

As mentioned in another thread our MH's delivery date has been put back until late July 2021 from an original planned date of May 2021 due to issues with the electronic parking brake on Mercedes Sprinters, which is now sorted. We placed our deposit down in September 2020.

I had a long chat with a senior employee at our dealers yesterday and he informed me how the system works...cutting a long story short they have already ordered their 2022 chassis and will be looking at their 2023 ones very soon. From these chassis orders there is a cut off date for them to spec up said chassis based on their own or customer requirements ready for their planned build date in 2022. There is no capacity for any more in 2021 from our manufacturer and I believe this is the case with many others.

The Fait chassis issue is even more stark. I was informed that customers expecting delivery in April/May this year are now looking at November/December assuming no more delays from Fiat. This is the situation with one, albeit very large, manufacturer, but apparently this is an issue right across the board as the leisure vehicle market in Europe has gone crazy.
That’s not good , we have a Weinsberg apparently arriving May as a stock van the dealer ordered which we have put a deposit on .... hope it arrives .....

What happened to the narrowboat you were buying ? If my memory serves me correct you had put a deposit down in anticipation of sailing off into the sunset.

Yep and that was a total disaster......I won't be doing that again. Bloody boats!!

I ordered mine in October 2019 and was supposed to get it in September 2020. Just received confirmation that it will be available mid April. Hang in there!!

Had a boat for a few years "Old Nick", had to get rid as had a bad crew, they kept saying i couldn't park it.
After a mistress most expensive thing you could every get involved with.
Lots more to tell but not on here.

I hope you do...it’s going to be torture reading all threads that will be posted on here about MH travels once lockdown is lifted and we are sat waiting for our van to be delivered

The shortage of FIAT chassis must be crippling for the MH manufacturers and converters.
Time they looked at other base vehicles, i.e. VW Crafter (or MAN TGE) for instance although they are getting hard to obtain. Those are available as panel van, chassis cab or chassis cowl so plenty of scope there.
Or Mercedes or Ford.

Ordered my new pvc in mid-Dec. with a delivery to dealer expected 22nd. Jan. for me to collect 1st. March. It was one of only 3 available in the spec. I wanted. The other two were said to be May and July deliveries. It has been sat at the dealers since 29th. Jan. I have a photo of it but frustratingly have been unable to collect it yet. With a backlog of collections this will now be 7th. May. Similar experience of customer service as others, have to keep chasing for information and they forget / don't bother to get back to you but I did get a 6% discount.

I’m pleased to say that my MH has arrived at Southdowns and they kindly FaceTimed me showing it on the transporter. They also took some pictures for me. 😁

I did read recently about the automotive industry suffering a global shortage of microchips e.g. for ECUs.

The gist of it was big manufacturers (like FIAT) who had fewer orders and cut production during Covid lockdowns, cancelled or reduced orders with chip manufacturers. That spare chip production capacity was allocated to customers making consumer electronics, so the automotive industry is suffering longer lead times. Maybe FIAT are unable to match their previous production output of Ducatos. That in turn restricts the MH converters' production capacity, and might help explain why dealers are receiving smaller allocations for 2021.

I am beginning to wonder if I will ever get my van, I put deposit down last October:oops::unsure:
Still no van, today was supposed to be collection day. Not registered yet, and I check the DVLA website at least twice a day! Dealership said they sent paperwork off on 19th March and paid VED on 1st April.... not sure how they can pay the tax if its not registered.? Dealership also said it was ok for me to pick it up today as the 'paperwork was in' .... :oops::eek:

Sorry to hear that. I feel your pain given that you're so close but still not there. I did hear that DVLA staff were on strike at the start of April because of concerns over safety ref Covid so that will almost certainly have created a backlog.

Yes, they were on strike last week, I told dealers that (they didn't know!) but they insisted that it would be ok to drive the van away without it being registered.
