I bought a folding bike for Spain trip it’s great for normal use but fancy a electric mountain bike as they are some great trails in the hills but at my age peddling up them is impossible,
I am looking for something that doesn’t cost more than a new Yamaha YZF Motorbike 🤣
It doesn’t need to be carbon and titanium as I am way past all that being 6ft 2 and 19 stone.
So just looking for abit of advice on different models

Not a true MTB as I also have a full sus Focus, They are a well capable bike that will handle most tracks

we have a pair of these, excellent bikes mainly for the Alps but have to say we're using them at home also, plenty of mounts for racks / cages etc

I got over 200 miles out of first battery charge, I'm fairly bike fit but it's nice to have a bit of help on the hills

I'm 6'1" and have an XL , wife 5'10" on a large

we're not to far from you if you want a look?

If you're the sort who would get a new bike, ride it a fair bit and then look at an upgrade...especially for off road...I'd skip the middle step and get a full suspension e-MTB now. You obviously enjoy the ebike you currently have. My wife has a front suspension e-bike (Lapierre) we do some light trails and single track which it is OK for...but she sometimes finishes feeling a little 'battered' due to the rer of the bike being none suspension. (My normal full sus bike has lockout on both front and rear....so road riding isn't as energy sapping as if it was bouncing up and down with each uphill pedal stroke....)
If I were you, I'd go somewhere like Sherwood Pines, hire a bike for a couple of hours and ee what you think...you could try a hardtail and a full sus and see if the extra outlay will be worth it for you.

And don't ignore 2nd hand bikes...many think nothing of spending £5k +...ride them for 50 miles and then think 'not for me' so sell them...moving on to their next fad.
Happy hunting

As we’re in Spain at the moment a friend has offered me his spare bike for a day out with him in the hills later this week so all being well I should have a better idea of what would be important to me after a few hours riding also if still capable of some rough ground watch this space🤣

Think carefully about the style of bike.

If truly off road on rough surfaces then yes look at a mountain bike. But these can have a quite aggressive riding position with handlebars perhaps a bit low.

If you are more of a touring cyclist that uses gravel forest tracks, towpath and similar routes then the tourer style bike may be better. Often with similar gearing, brakes and front suspension forks to mountain bikes, the ride position is more upright. I've found it nicer. Fit off road capable tyres to the tourer and it's great. So do look at e-bikes like the Cube Kathmandu.

I'm going to suggest two things...
Firstly. a Cube Reaction hardtail with Bosch Gen 4 motor and a 720wh battery
Secondly. Look into how you are going to carry two bikes and charge them if you operate off grid...
Ask questions if you want...

I’ll second that suggestion. We’ve covered many thousands of miles on our pedal powered Cube Kathmandus over the years on gravel as well as tarmac, including cycle camping some of the long distance EU cycle routes or sections of them. Time for a change and I’m now casting around for prices on this year’s model Kathmandu EXC 800 e-bikes after going through the specs with a local supplier. The Bosch CX drive does look to be very good and there’s apparently a simple firmware patch coming that will increase the power output from 85Nm to 95Nm to get the most from the 800Wh battery system.

Mine is a Whyte E160 Full-on EMTB. I have had it a few years now and have covered over 6,000 miles mostly off-road. If I was to buy a replacement it would be another one of these.

I have a large garage in the van and plenty of solar for charging 👍

I recently fitted two SWYTCH upgrades to our bikes as we like the bikes we have. Really pleased.

We bought his and hers Giant stance E2’s for doing mostly gravel tracks / hill climbing, can’t fault them, but annoyingly Giant Uk has some bikes on clearance sale like the trance X E3 with 750wh battery reduced from £4600 to £2600 although last years model which I’d of bought

Last June I bought a Spelilized Tero X5, with the 70nm motor. Love it much prefer it to Bosch powered bikes. It's a full suspension MTB but had mudguards and a pannier frame so useful on the road as well.
First two weeks I did 200 miles on it a lot of it off road on steep hills.
