Really long signatures were started by Lenny HB as he listed his trips into his sig, it was a great way to jump right into his adventures.

The downside of this is that it has been copied by others and the user experience on a mobile and tablet is degraded by all that scrolling you have to do between posts

I've given this some thought and come up with a solution. There is a new forum section called Signature Links and Info. You will be able to make a post in this forum. Just one post. but it can be as long as you like and you will be able to edit it indefinitely or delete it entirely. Discussions will be off, and when you edit your post it does not appear in What's New

Signatures will now be restricted to two lines only, and if you have more to say, you can make a post in the new forum and then link to it. (y)

Here's how Lenny's Signature looks now.

Following the link in Lenny's sig will take you to the About You Post which you can edit to your hearts content, add pictures and make it as long as you like.

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Make a Signature in this forum
  2. Link to that Forum Post in Your Signature
  3. Edit that that post as much as you like
  4. Make sure your Sig is no longer than two lines

Good Idea.

Switched off viewing signatures long ago because they spoilt viewing threads on a phone.

Yes, I don't turn them off for two reasons, first of course, I need to see them just in-case there is anything inappropriate. Second, I enjoy them. That signature line can be so interesting and tell you a lot about the person who chose it. But from now on, we'll need to keep it to two lines (y)

To save me wasting time can anybody highlight the inappropriate ones in LennyHB's signature, as mentioned by the Gaffer, so I get to the "nitty gritty" without having to wade through the jealousy inducing guff, eh great trip posts.:whistle2::giggler:
Thank you.:notworthy2:

Checking having followed the instructions slightly better

Me too, but for different reasons. I turned them off due to animated images in them before I found the "animated images" plugin for firefox.

There is a curtain irony in there somewhere, as yours is about nothing   (y)

Jim, good idea, imv.
Yes, my sig is a long one because I hadn't thought of any other way to let others, who may be interested, follow the developments of my specification. I'll try out the new sig system and see how it works.

Whilst you're on the subject of changes/improvements, are you aware that if we browse with the dark theme, the hyper links in messages show in a user-unfriendly colour of blue - the browser default, I think. Difficult to read.

Mine is definitely inappropriate if you click on it. :D Does anyone ever read them?

I just scroll past those bits as I thought they were just things like memes which I rarely find funny as I’m a miserable old bag. I have clearly been missing a lot. I have a whole new section to enjoy now. Life just gets better.

Well, I tried enabling signatures, but still too much clutter, I'll have to manage without.

I have also long ago turned off signatures, might just stay off even with the new format.

I'm going to 'draw' my own conclusions on that one, perhaps its the 'blind leading the blind' ... maybe I need to 'screen' what he says more closely!

Well done Jim!
It is one of my pet hates that people essentially repeat earlier posts in new threads (Especially if they are mine!!) I suppose that is inevitable with many people, unlike me, accessing via their phone but the more they can see in just a couple of screens the less likely that is to happen!

I experimented yesterday by turning signatures back on, it was okay on my laptop but today on my phone it's still a nuisance. For example the giggles thread, nearly every post on there had a signature very visible, it was only when I read it a few times on subsequent posts that I realised they weren't duplicate posts (which occasionally happens) but a signature. Consequently I've turned signatures off again.

He should just pull himself together perhaps, eh Minxy ……?😉

It seems there are ways round this - with fake signatures at the bottom of posts.
