London Ultra Low Emission Zone being extended

There are always odd outcomes from blanket regulations: I have a car which does 60 mpg and is zero rated for VED, it costs me £12.50 to drive it into London ULEZ. If I take one of my work vehicles, a 53 seater coach which does 8mpg it costs £nil! Doesn't seem very emission friendly, especially when you consider there is almost no sensible coach parking around the city which means driving in and out twice for a job in the city.
Likewise I will be able to drive my 7.5 MTR Motorhome into the zone but will have to pay in the wife's 800cc Diesel SMART Car that has zero road tax, was exempt from the Congestion Charge from 2012-2016 and does 70mpg. I am going to do it just to cause the chaos😊

I assume this is in response to the inquest into the girl who unfortunately had severe asthma etc and pollution was put down as a reason for her death.

Edit: emjaiuk posted at whilst I was writing.
No it's not. This was proposed a long time ago. Lately he has been suggesting a £3:50 levy on vehicles travelling into Greater London.

The thing about this new extension is it brings the charge out to some less affluent areas of London were people are on low incomes and cannot afford to change their vehicles. I believe his ultimate plan is to get everyone using public transport, something that has been somewhat thwarted by the introduction of Covid into the mix.

He will need to get everyone off the road to make way for all those transits deliveries. One 8 wheel tipper takes about 20 tons a transit tipper takes about 1.5 tons, so that will 13 transit tippers to replace one 8 wheeler.

Apart from those living inside the north and south circulars why you would want drive your motorhomes in I'm not sure.
Independence for Havering, our council grab enough of our cash, why pay for Khan as well, what does he do for me.
I could be rude about him but he is not worth it.

There has been a long history of people who would like to visit the sights of London staying at the C&MC site at Crystal Palace because of local transport connections. That site is inside the LEZ and will be inside Khan's extension of the ULEZ. Unfortunately I believe this sites lease from the local authority runs out soon anyway.

Crystal Palace site is outside the ulez, but inside lez. I am no fan of either, it's a tax on the poor. I rarely travel into London by car, one of the last times it took over 3 hours to travel 17 miles from Romford to the Southbank at 5pm and 2 hours to get home at 11pm.
London is a great city, so much to see for free or reasonably priced.

Crystal Palace and the Lee Valley site are both within the LEZ and because of their transport links we use them when we visit London BUT my understanding is that the ULEZ standards will apply to those areas from October and that will cut out many older motorhomes less than Euro 6.

So the next question for those of us who do visit London is where is a site outside the M25 with easy links into the Centre. There's a cash cow waiting for someone here

hi gus are you sure my van is euro 6 so is ok but the car is 2014 euro5 and is also ok just got this off the tfl
The ULEZ standards for existing central London ULEZ and when the zone expands are:

  • Euro 3 for motorcycles, mopeds, motorised tricycles and quadricycles (L category)
  • Euro 4 (NOx) for petrol cars, vans, minibuses and other specialist vehicles
  • Euro 6 (NOx and PM) for diesel cars, vans and minibuses and other specialist vehicles
  • Euro VI (NOx and PM) for lorries, buses and coaches and other specialist heavy vehicles (NOx and PM)
What happened to Euro 5 ?
Phil

Only euro6 for diesels

Your correct sorry!

Looking at the LEZ zones as a guesstimate that's 80% inside the M25, I suspect this will increase over the next few years to cover the country to encourage EV's. Lots of areas in London is also a 20MPH zone

Unfortunately one bro-in-law lives in Gidea park whilst other is in Rainham ,with M-I-L on the southend arterial at gallows corner. I used to like being banned.:giggle:
. I rarely travel into London by car, o
But technically you are in London . London Borough of Havering. London Borough of Redbridge .I remember being born in East Ham when it was in Essex & then suddenly found when they 'created' Newham we were suddenly Londoners.

Since your tagline implies you understand finance, how would you raise the funds to keep TfL going for the benefit of all?
Nationalise it until the Covid passes and revenues get back to 'normal'

I'm sure my Van is a Euro5, but a quick check on TFL site says no charge.

If it’s ok for cars etc to be charged for entering London, what’s to stop every town and county charging every time a car etc crosses into their area.

I imagine this will happen eventually.

I don’t think this will ever have any affect on me. I haven’t been there other than working since about 1980ish.
It probably won’t affect most on here.
The last time I worked there It was very busy, very dirty and certainly not a place I would go to voluntarily. Too much traffic, too many people, too many buildings, too much concrete not enough wild life, not enough fields, not enough mountains and nowhere near enough space.
So like I said it probably won’t affect many of us. I don’t profess to know the answer to the place but I don’t think charging more money for vehicles to enter makes the vehicles any greener. It sort of says “we’re anti pollution but if you give us money you’re ok to pollute”

The question was how would you raise funds, not simply ask the whole of the country to pay for London's transport.
