I bought a Panda 4x4 for a run around as our roads here are so bad that I didn't want to get the JCW Convertible Mini ruined.

It does a billion miles to the gallon.

It's so cheap to insure

It's mega fun and amazing being 4x4

Get the twin air, it's 3 cylinder sounds rough but brilliant power unit.

No idea of the tax implications in Spain, but I’ve just sold my Hyundai i10. £20 tax in the uk and it was a great little car and 4 door. Prior to that I had a Picanto which was similar and it was set up as a toad!

I don't think any Second Hand cars in Spain are cheap, like wise here in France you have to double the UK asking price and that's if you are lucky.

My 2014 Volkswagen UP! Is £20 tax and has been very reliable over nearly 10 years I've owned it, only thing broke was the front spring last year. Think it will need new discs this year mind.

Got a 2019 Skoda Citygo (same car) too but that is about £185 tax 🙄

Surely if it's anything like the UK the biggest cost by far of running a car is depreciation followed by fuel much better to go by those and if it's low tax its a bonus

My UP has depreciated £2000 in 10 years so lately depreciation is not what it once was. Rule of thumb used to be 50% in 3 years 😭

I think the market like with motorhomes has been very unusual the past few years. I do think that a lot forget about depreciation until the px quote hits home.

I think the level of car tax is dependent upon which province you reside in in Spain ( Gus or another resident will correct me on this I think!). Anyway we drive an old Honda Jazz which costs approx 60euro per year in tax and the insurance is, off the top of my head, around 250 a year but that is for anyone that is licenced to drive the car not just one or two named drivers and includes breakdown etc.
Running a car in Spain is about as cheap as it comes in western europe...buying one is a different matter. When looking we wanted a car that if need be we could walk away from without much issue and abandon it if it couldn't be sold. Well while looking we found that we've put better cars into srap then many that they were asking 2k+ euros for.......the cost is bonkers!

How odd, that a 2012 UP! (my son's) is zero tax. Who dreams up these rules?

low tax and insurance
Tax is dependent on the local council.
Insurance includes europe wide breakdown & recovery ,usually & isn't cheap.

not around here ,to my knowledge*

the biggest cost by far of running a car is depreciation
No they go up here:rolleyes:even without an engine people ask prices in the 000's .

I think the level of car tax is dependent upon which province you reside in in Spain ( Gus or another resident will correct me on this I think!).
even worse it is set by each & every local council. I paid for my last kia Carnival(sedona) 185€/year . Friend of a friend who lives in Estepona with identical vehicle pays 65€/year. My transit is 161€/year but If I go down to Águilas it halves. Or slightly along to San Juan de los Terreros it becomes 25% .Trouble is many of these areas check that you actually live there .

as an aside my Transit van now has 48 years ncb on it & still costs 530€year FC.

* probably due to the fact that as said each council sets its own road tax amount so are unlikely to cut there own throat by discounting, reducing or even a zero amount as they would have reduced income.Unless of course gov.es footed the bill? but haven't seen any sign of that .

I was quoted a dealer trade in price the other day of £32,000 we only paid £36,300 ten years ago 😊
We sold our MH recently just short of 18 years old with a similar result but as they say with shares past performance is no guarantee of future returns. I think we're going to return to more normal depreciation levels unless new car prices continue to increase and there continue to be waiting lists to get them.
