Lots now
After advising other funsters of been able to park in the long bays that surround the car park, I have first hand advice that this is not the case.
We have utilised little roodee for over 5 years now as it's very handy for when we visit our business storage and we really love the city with its selection of heritage, shopping, bars and restaurants.
We have always used the longer bays that coaches and commercial vehicles use as they are more fit to purpose for a 8 metres A class motorhome.
We got a ticket the other day which has since been squashed (they didnt have to do this but im happy they did), however the council has stated that the long bays are only for commercial vehicles and coaches not motorhomes.
We will still visit chester but if we find that it becomes awkward or impossible to park using the 2 bay system we unfortunately will have to make the decision of using other city's and stopovers (Shrewsbury is a good alternative as they have a small section where they are longitude in style rather than block form).

Below is a copy of my email

Your Notes: We had a ticket for an oversize vehicle (the top ticket issuing machine). We are classed as private heavy goods on our v5 coming in at 6 tonnes, so we tend to use an oversized vehicle bay that lorries and coach's use. We are not a car. If motorhomes are not allowed to use these bays you should state that so no confusion can occur and stop using terms like "oversize vehicle", I personally don't think you have explained your policy enough. If you do not want larger motorhomes (we are 8.1m long) then we will pay the fine and I will inform the largest UK-based motorhome community (which we are a life member) - "motorhome fun" - to ensure that this doesn't happen to anyone else. We have been using little roodee car park for over 5 years and have never received a parking ticket for parking in these bays. We spend on average at least 60 days a year in chester shopping and dining out in the city. It would be such a shame to the local shops, restaurants and bars if we cannot utilise this car park for stopovers. I hope this matter can be resolved for the best outcome for chester.

So in conclusion.

Always get a 2 bay ticket if you cover more than 1 bay and do not park in the larger bays that surround the car park except the ones next to the river amongst the trees and bushes.

Well done Paul, It'll be interesting to see what reply comes back to my question via Councillor Daniels.
It may be worth passing on the information to Councillor Raza Daniels so that she can bring it up with the officers concerned, rather than wait and risk a different answer.
It certainly seems that some wardens are not trained in how to apply the TRO correctly.

Last week I had just arrived and and the warden asked me to move on to the area for cars I pointed out that I would be taking two spaces but he said that didn't matter, he gave the van next to me a £35.00 ticket. What is annoying is that the wardens are going soley for the motorhomes and not looking for people who have not paid or have overstayed because you can't get into the carpark without a ticket and can't get out without paying.

New information from my tweeting them, they've done a bit of an about turn. Two replies in reverse order for those not familiar with twitter.

That was a good idea Graham, until I read on further...

How can you not pay ticket in ticket out 🤷‍♂️

Seems easy enough, have a notice saying motorhomes will be fined if they park here on race days, with a link to how you can find race days.

Members who say it should class PHGV as a larger vehicle for parking are missing a couple of points.
Point 1, some PHGV registered vans are not large coachbuilt, mine is a 4500kg PVC do will fit in a standard space.
Point 2, Some larger motorhomes are plated at 3500kg PLG and are too big for a standard space.
So using the taxation class of a vehicle is not reliable for depicting parking fees!

Which is why councils tend to use specific definitions - and drivers need to check what they are rather than make an assumption :)

The use of the 2 different ticket machines at little roodee is not explained in a way a person can understand which one to use.
Having said that I always wentf or the lower one for cars.
So if a motorhome driver uses the top one they pay more when in fact they don't need to. Maybe they should send a request to the council for a refund!

Wrong though, as has already been said, if you are oversize you take from the top one and park over 2 "bays" NOT in the coach space.

It's years since I used Little Roodee (and then in a car) so I won't comment on ease of understanding.
However, if it does cause anyone difficulty then the thing to do is - as I've said repeatedly over the years - check before using, rather than assume. If someone has assumed and overpaid then it is their own fault.

I agree. On our last vist there an 8.5m van made a similar error and bought the lower ticket. As did I, but I was in a PVC

Yes, it’s ambiguous- even the local traffic wardens will give you different advice.

But the copy of the tweet above from the council states to take the upper oversize ticket.

I got a reply today from the Parking people from a person named L.Littler (pseudonym for Little Roodee?) saying that after careful consideration they would cancel our parking ticket, but in future we MUST only park across two bays, NOT in the coach & lorry bays. I was of course grateful to have the fine voided, but still disappointed as I'd explained that at 9.5m long with a large turning circle and a big ''backswing'' from our rear-end, that we could be (and have been) trapped when parking in two bays - i.e., trapped by adjacent, later-parking cars making it impossible for us to get out. No matter, two bays it must be. They included a photo of the blue sign instructing campervans to take a ticket from the top machine and to use two bays.

IMHO...if your moho is the size of a coach - then it should be treated as such for parking purposes.
So if all the coach bays are full (of coaches) this suggests that any extra coaches can park in the way Mr H.....oops....Littler has said. Imagine the chaos then.

As pointed out last Sunday, it is the wording of the TRO which matters, not taxation class, what opinion any one of us might have or anything else.
Under the Chester TRO, buses (which includes coaches in this instance) are not allowed to park across two of the ordinary bays.
To be fair to the council it has done what is practical to allow parking/camping by motorhome users. That practicality doesn't enable accommodation of those who have chosen the largest motorhomes is not the council's fault.

Chester loss was Shrewsburys gain today.
We arrived at little roodee and no parking was suitable for us to park over 2 car parking bays yet the majority of the long/coach bays where not in use.
Obviously not wanting to go through getting a parking fine we left.
Currently parked up at Shrewsbury, out for food tonight and a few beers.
Plus we are doing shopping tommorow
Glad I don't own a business in chester.

Interested to know which car park allows overnight camping in Shrewsbury 🤔
