Lots now
After advising other funsters of been able to park in the long bays that surround the car park, I have first hand advice that this is not the case.
We have utilised little roodee for over 5 years now as it's very handy for when we visit our business storage and we really love the city with its selection of heritage, shopping, bars and restaurants.
We have always used the longer bays that coaches and commercial vehicles use as they are more fit to purpose for a 8 metres A class motorhome.
We got a ticket the other day which has since been squashed (they didnt have to do this but im happy they did), however the council has stated that the long bays are only for commercial vehicles and coaches not motorhomes.
We will still visit chester but if we find that it becomes awkward or impossible to park using the 2 bay system we unfortunately will have to make the decision of using other city's and stopovers (Shrewsbury is a good alternative as they have a small section where they are longitude in style rather than block form).

Below is a copy of my email

Your Notes: We had a ticket for an oversize vehicle (the top ticket issuing machine). We are classed as private heavy goods on our v5 coming in at 6 tonnes, so we tend to use an oversized vehicle bay that lorries and coach's use. We are not a car. If motorhomes are not allowed to use these bays you should state that so no confusion can occur and stop using terms like "oversize vehicle", I personally don't think you have explained your policy enough. If you do not want larger motorhomes (we are 8.1m long) then we will pay the fine and I will inform the largest UK-based motorhome community (which we are a life member) - "motorhome fun" - to ensure that this doesn't happen to anyone else. We have been using little roodee car park for over 5 years and have never received a parking ticket for parking in these bays. We spend on average at least 60 days a year in chester shopping and dining out in the city. It would be such a shame to the local shops, restaurants and bars if we cannot utilise this car park for stopovers. I hope this matter can be resolved for the best outcome for chester.

So in conclusion.

Always get a 2 bay ticket if you cover more than 1 bay and do not park in the larger bays that surround the car park except the ones next to the river amongst the trees and bushes.

I will raise this issue with the local Councillors to see if they recognise that the larger motorhomes do in fact require a Private heavy goods taxation class.

Thank you. That would make life easier if we can use the larger bays.

I have written to Councillor Raza Daniels explaining about the Taxation class which would hopefully along with their larger size put them in the same class for parking as Lorries and Coaches.

This is interesting because it illustrates that the over-riding factor is the wording in the Traffic Regulation Order rather than something like taxation class - and such wording differs between different local authorities (and owners of private car parks).

In this case the TRO (Cheshire West and Chester Borough Council (Off-Street Parking Places, Chester) Order 2015) says that Large vehicle parking bays in Little Roodee car park are restricted to usage by Buses and Goods Vehicles 3.5 tonnes minimum gross weight.
It also defines a Goods Vehicle as having the same meaning as the definition used in the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 (i.e. a motor vehicle or trailer constructed or adapted for use for the carriage or haulage of goods or burden of any description). Motorhomes are clearly not covered by this definition
The TRO contains no specific definition for Motorhome, Motor Caravan &c. They come within the general definition of "Vehicle" - "any motor car, Motor Cycle or other mechanically propelled automobile"

On that basis, as motorhomes are clearly not covered by the definition in the TRO, the council may well feel that it has explained its policy enough. It wll be interesting to see what the council says.

Was always going to happen.
We've used the car park for 20 years. Back in the day we would be the only one in there. Sadly as the appeal has increased and the use of Internet makes these things easier to find they become too popular.
The other week there were at least 25 vans in there, some draining their waste, some very poorly parked and the coaches had practically nowhere to go.
Be nice if Chester provided decent parking but then again I use a no facility cl a 5 min bike ride away no facilities for 12 pn

Chester council for whatever reason has never had facilities for a coach park, after closing down the old bus/coach station we were left with just a lay-by for pick up and drop offs for years.
They really haven't a clue on how to harness the value of the tourist.
One of the park and ride parks has closed which would make an ideal coach park, I suspect Taylor Wimpey or Redrow will buy it to flood chester with even more houses.

We were there last week and got a ticket, too. We've parked there LOADS of times over the years with no problem, just taking a ticket from the ''top machine'' for longer vehicles. Indeed, on this particular visit, there was a parking warden (a guy with ginger hair) who said in the afternoon that it was OK to park there. Then, early the next morning (8.10am) a different warden gave us a ticket, which we will challenge. Well done to the original OP for challenging theirs.

I actually think they should only let coaches use the big bays on race days, that's the only days they need all those big bays. Then the car park can be utilised to its best potential for revenue for the council and the city.

Yes, I can see the logic in that, but on the day we stayed eight of the bays along the side were still vacant and ALL of the top ones were vacant - about another 15 of them.........

How much is the ticket? Sorry if I missed that info further up.

On a slight tangent I parked our 6m Pilote in the remote carpark recommended for MoHos at Clarkes Village in Somerset last year, having checked on their internet site in advance, but found the bays are rather tight even for that. I parked as tidily as possible in a virtually empty carpark but came back to a ticket for "using 2 bays". Being French-registered I ignored it and have heard nothing since but others might want to be aware.

Well I’ve been going to roodee for 10yrs never had that problem. They cannot fine you for using two bays because the bays are only separated with a water run channel there’s no lines. I’ve spoken to the councill about this and there fine regarding taking up 2 bays as it cannot enforced in court IE there’s no markings to show two bays.

Many of these coach bays may be empty at the moment, but we are coming into the holiday season now until September and i suspect the council is worried they may not be able to accommodate some coaches because the bays are occupied by motorhomes. But as you say - better signage is required. I don't see why motorhomes can't use the bays between October and May, and signpost accordingly. (Race-days excepted of course).

I’ve just spoken to Cheshire councill they have told me if your vehicle is over 3.5ton park in the long bays and get your ticket from the top of the machine if under 3.5t use the lower ticket part of the machine and no problems whatsoever of taking two bays but try and park at the lower end of car park near river.

that's not answering what I asked though? Pedantic I know but I had a chat with someone before about this and stating that we should be in the NON coach long bays that are in line with the river only. So that's why I'd like to know if they said long or coach.
