Chester car park wardens take no prisoners.
This poor motorhomer clearly was just using initiative but they don't like that.
He's used a dead area to ensure he's not overhanging but placed his wheels wrong, they have got a ticket.
Boo chester, not fair.
Obviously not me as im used to the system.

Some places allow no over hanging*, along with you cannot pay for two tickets nor can any vehicle have a trailer attached.Bear street car park in Barnstaple is one like that-
*unless of course you are a local large van owner

Edinburgh Council don't allow "double tickets" as many foreign visitors have found.

The only P&R for motorhomes is near the airport at Ingleston (no overnight) but there are regular buses and trams to the centre.

Has something changed at this park, it was always the bee's knees on here, always being mentioned as a good stopover , now this is the second complaint I have seen about it recently.
Never been myself , just going on what I have read.

They have always been a bit pedantic here but maybe they are chasing money to shore up shortfalls in the budget.

It's still a good stop, but they are applying the rules to the letter

Have used it many times and have seen a few tickets so they have been keen for a while so safer to take your ticket from the top machine and use 2 bays if you don't fit in one , i always try and park by the river but that's a bit tight even with a 6.2m van and the last time i was there i cracked my rear bumper on a post i hadn't seen. Well signed on way in what they will do you for.

That is just it.You can't be in the "non space".
it is outside the white lanes which would probably finish at the drain gulley
I get you cant be in the non space, what I don't get is why someones complaining about them getting a ticket when they plainly haven't parked in a space?

Don't think so, I've always liked it as a stopover, wife loves Chester and we always have a few drinks and meals when there and she loves the shopping!

One of the reasons I have gone to a smaller van it fits in one space tight but saves a bit of stress
I have had two tickets in the 11 or so years we have had our van.
One in wales and one in Chester little rode I just payed it.
And don’t go thare any more we spend lots of money in the shops restaurants thare but just don’t go thare any more

Makes you wonder how many others do the same and then the council complain revenues are down in the car park, and businesses lose out in teh centre? That's not treating visitors as cash cow's it's just pedantic lunacy at play. I hope someone from Chester council sees this thread.

The land owner makes the rules: the driver doesn’t stick to them: the council employee carries out the job. SIMPLES

Why do some people think that they are entitled to choose what they wish to obey without consequences?

As a manager I had one member of staff say “you can’t make me do what you want: all you can do is punish me for disobeying”.

I was a bit miffed when I got a ticket there for parking in the longer bays which are designed for hgv and coaches.
They cancelled my ticket as I explained my motorhome is actually a hgv.
They have since clarified that motorhomes are not allowed to park in these spaces with signs, fair enough it's there car park and they can set the rules as to how they think is best for the city.
I still use the car park but a lot less as the rules they have clarified makes it less likely I would get in in peak times.
My original photo, my thoughts.
It just seemed a bit unfair to punish someone for using a piece of the car park that doesn't impact on anyone else, but as I have said it's there land, the ticketed customer will be definitely upset and as a result will leave chester with a unhappy memory of the city.
The annoying part of this is if they had been turned round the other way, there wheels would have been in the parking bay and there bikes would have been overhanging the space which is fine as its not a pavement or blocking anyone.

So, does the whole vehicle have to be inside the white lines of the parking bay - or just the wheels?
Would you get a ticket if your overhang just extended the teeniest bit over the white line?

I believe if you overhang but your wheels are in the bay that's OK. This is just my opinion and not fact.

I would appeal the ticket as they cannot contravene rule 2 as there’s no markings to be inside, unless I’m not seeing the picture correctly.

The carpark ticket machines were not working , probably due to workmen on the bridge. We were supposed to pay £11 for our stay, but when wife went to paying leaving she could only pay £5, not sure why, but the barriers were permanently up anyway. It said the anpr was still working though.

I was recently in a car park in Shoeburyness, and as I arrived the attendant came over and directed me forwards and backwards until all four wheels were just inside the bay. I overhung both front and back, but he was happy. I am 7.5m + bike rack so 8m long.
It seems the rule is wheels inside the lines...
