Lionel Messi.

No alliance with any English club so genuine question, what makes you think he’ll get it right? Is his team showing evidence of improvement? What make you think an inexperienced manager will get it right after 2 windows when some of the supposedly best managers couldn’t?
I don't think he was given funds. The folk in charge are trying to build a team on the cheap :(

Jimmy Johnstone who played with Celtic now he was some player,

Have you been drinking ,if not you need help
Stone cold sober... you seem to fit all the stereotypes, deluded too that you lot are whiter than white...

The last couple of years have made me realise why the rags hate you so much....

Do we think that Poch will go to Man U?

JJ

not after last night. I think he has to pay 11million pounds back if he takes a PL post. Think he will wait until the end of the season.

Not sure we could afford him, don't think he will ever leave Barcelona.
At the moment we would need four of him.
I'm confident Ole will get it right if given time, at least two more transfer windows to get in the right players and get rid of those who are not good enough, going to be a few more bad times before the good times roll again.

Not a chance PaulyP. even with the best players in the world around him I truly think he is not tactically astute enough to take a team like United back to your glory days. Think of it this way. You are putting him in the same category as Klopp and Guadiolla, Poch, Mourinio, Hodgson...

There are better managers working better at lower levels too, Wilder at Sheff united (sorry for the reminder TheTwoOfUs) Smith at Villa. even Potter at BHAFC,,, spit spit than Olly is doing. He is a poor manager, motivational speeches about the glory days only go so far.

Messi is undoubtedly a great, but not the greatest in my book. That title I would have to give to the magician that is Ronaldinho, ex Barcalona player. Awesome player who had every trick in the book as an added extra.

As said we are lucky to be in an era of two greats, I love Ronaldo but for me it's Messi every time.

George Best. No contest.

I respect your opinion but I couldn't/wouldn't put Best even in my top 5 which would probably be
Messi
Ronaldo (Christian)
Pele
Maradonna
Cruyff
Eusebbeo
Hagi

Best may have been better if he never had his problems but I just think he was the first ever "playboy" footballer.

I must say that George Best was the most skilful footballer that I have ever seen ,

Congratulations to the Eagles... a great result especially with a man down.

JJ

Great result , was lucky enough to see it.... We could be safe by Christmas at this rate. :-)

  • Love It

I saw Pele play a couple of times in the 66 world cup. He was and always will be , for me, the greatest. Messi is superb but never quite does it on the International stage. Messi is well protected by modern day refereeing but in the 60's Pele was often 'kicked to death' in order to stop him. Of course we should never overlook the brilliant Maradona who also did it at club and country level.

There was also a brilliant Hungarian called Florian Albert who won European player of the year in the 60's saw him at Goodison Park take on and destroy Brazil. The game was the best game I ever saw. About 10 years ago on a site in Budapest I mentioned to the receptionist that I had witnessed that great game, he told me he would get his dad and Uncles to talk to me about it unfortunately I had to leave.

Well, all I can say if he's not tactically astute he showed Mourinho how to do it last night. :xgrin:

That's Sir Roy Hodgson you are talking about... he's one of our own, best manager in the world bar none, even beat Bournmouth with 10 men Hodgson...

I think in fairness that's the problem.... The players can turn it on when they want to to basically get one up on their former boss. But wait till you are playing Burnley on a cold night in December... then there's not a chance... I think you could of sent them out last night and they would have won.

I believe that Kane and Son were playing last night ?
It was our best display for a while, four games unbeaten and eight home games without losing, slow but sure progress, the derby will be interesting this Saturday, City are not at their best at this time and don't forget that the scoucers have only dropped two points and one of them was at OT.

Ha ha, City are not at their best.... Try telling Burnley that

Are we talking about the same Roy Hodgson ?? He's had more jobs than Frank Spencer and each one of similar disastrous results. He might be keeping Palace up but remind me of what he's won.

That's a great defence of your Uncle Wroy...and there's your answer....get Palace into the Danish League. You'll win everything.

Well OGS must be a crap manager, only managed a 2 v 1 win against the champions.

Eeerrrrrr I don't think we play Barnsley :xrofl::xrofl::xrofl::xrofl:

Maybe we could try against Burnley away on the 28th 19.45 ko.:xThumb:

not yet my friend, not yet..... but some of us can dream.....

You cannot compare today’s footballers with players from the 60s it was a different game they should get 2 teams to play in the rain with a old style leather ball. I near got knocked out trying to head a ball back up field in the raino_O

I'm surprised Me Gascoigne hasn't had a mention here, at his best what a player

As a Leeds fan Eddie Gray was pure class too.

I grew up idolising George Best, but nowadays I'd put Christiano Ronaldo above him. I know him and Messi have won loads of Ballon D'or etc, but Messi is dull with no character..

Ronaldo loves the game..

56 hat tricks speaks for itself

I think that had Gazza stayed fit and been in the modern game he would be something else. His quality was unbelievable... Of course, his liking for the odd beer didn't do him any favors.

As PaulyP has said Solskjaer needs to be given time. We tried the obvious (and Fergie's) choice in David Moyes and, if anything, he should have been given longer having inherited a team that Fergie IMO failed to rejuvenate. Although I concede he left them as champions the writing was already on the wall with City in the ascendancy and only going to keep getting better. We tried the top foreign coaches and they failed to achieve any consistency so while it may have been a knee jerk reaction to give the job to Ole on a permanent basis after his good start we do need a long period of rebuilding with a settled team in control. Too many short term buys that failed to perform plus, more recently, the failure to keep or adequately replace Fellaini and Herrera who, while members of an under performing team, did at least give us some semblance of a midfield.

On the subject of GOATs, as a kid I used to watch George Best when playing in London in the late '60s and early '70s and marvelled at the way he played on those winter pitches especially with players like Chopper Harris and plenty of others around of the same ilk. I've seen him again recently when BT aired some old games and my memories are not clouded in the mists of time, he was in a class of his own, maybe not for long enough is the only negative. Still Pele for me followed by Di Stefano, Messi, Best, Ferenc Puskas, Maradona, spit spit, Cristiano Ronaldo, the Brazilian Ronaldo and any one of Ronaldhino, Cruyff, Garrincha and Rivera of Italy around the '60s/70s. All forwards but we like seeing goals, not defenders stopping them although that could be another thread.
