Lilypad wind blockers

Apart from breeze protection we've found ours very good at providing a

modicum of shade from the sun at "beer'o'clock!

I emailed the guy recently - he's not doing the PBoro show or any other this year:
"Being 72, Having high blood pressure, Diabetes, COPD
And NOT being a very thin person
I have decided to hide for the rest of this year with the covid thing so sorry not doing any shows this year just working at my unit and doing mail order only
Sorry, Cheers Rick"

Hi Chris
Our set of Lily Pad screens are for a 3.5m awning, although we used it on a 4m awning and it gives you a doorway. The sides rear height is 2.5m and it will come with the side support poles. The netting itself is black as pictured in Shrimps photo.
thanks have pmd you.

We love ours... they are expensive for what the are, but they are so worth it..
I especially like it for keeping flies and mosquitoes out.
Our friends actually made one from black netting, which is a better fit than ours.

We’d highly recommend lily pads. They offer privacy. They serve as windbreaks. You can configure them several ways. They are easy to carry.

Recently bought some Flexy-Shades at the New Forest Show got 3 for £100. Very well made and have a reinforcing tape sew around the edges, only tried them briefly. I was going to make some myself but at that price not worth the effort.

You can make a shade from a shower curtain turned upside down.

The weighted bottom edge can be fed through the channel then elastic looped through the holes to peg down to the ground.
3 x transparent shower curtains (with diffusers) purchased for 20 nicker
20 x ball bungees purchased (more than enough) of varying sizes for £13

I just think this is a brilliant idea and thank you shed loads.

More info please - where from, brand etc.
When you say transparent - are they 'solid' plastic, not netting?

We use ours with an extendable clothes rod at the bottom. Just thread the loops through and then just two pegs to hold the whole side down. Easy peasy

I may be wrong but shower curtains might trap too much heat for many situations when you just want to be out of the wind.

Voile and Lilypads allow much of the heat to escape.

Shower curtain etc would be great in cooler conditions to create a mini conservatory.

Just went onto Ebay and selected "Transparent shower curtains"
They are 6 foot by 6 foot with the 12 hooks. Went for 3 so i can do an end and 2 at the front. Decided on the bungees as connections and needed a shed load more.
Wanted transparent and we will likely use them more as windblockers in this country and sun protectors when in France.
I ll be using them in about 3 weeks if you want to wait and see what they turn out like,

When i sad it to the Mrs I said "you are either going to love this or hate it"

So we decided to "Waste £20"

I used a fabric shower curtain rather than a plastic one.

We had a think about that, and we cant see us ever having 3 of them up, the only possible scenario is a wind coming at 45 degrees and we have company in chairs outside.
Even in that scenario half the awning is still out in the open and the "breeze" will still make it under and in between the curtains.
If, however, our theory is wrong, and voile is the better option, we will have wasted £20 finding out.

Mines shower proof !

And we have formulated a cunning plan that they may go as a slanty type sun shade thing from the daughters arbour walk through and then if they are no use I have pointed out to the wife that I could use them to remove a body and keep myself forensically clean. I will have to bin them

I think that they would be great when it is cooler outside but if it is warm and breezy, you might get too warm. I'm interested to hear how it goes. It does demonstrate though that you could get a decent amount of sun / wind protection for £20.

We had the full set made with the curtains, blinking love them and as other peeps say really light and dry quickly. Rick doesn't have a showroom because we wanted to look at them before we took the plunge. His answer was that people usually bought them after seeing them on a unit on a site. We took the plunge blind n invested n so glad we did at peterborough show all weekend with them up is you want a chat n a look

This must be a sign, we finally used our Thule omnistor awning this week a year after it was fitted! We’ve had the leaflet about these from last September’s New Forest show in the kitchen for months and I only recently threw it out. I was going to message Wombles because I thought Karen would be bound to remember what they were.

Thank you very much, I will be ordering a pair. I reckon they will be perfect. We have a Cornish windbreak that is just too long.

I bought a single bed sheet from Sainsbury’s in the sale - £7.50. Fits almost full width of the awning, just a few inches gap either side.
Already had some mini clips that I bought from IKEA years ago for a craft project. They are like mini bulldog clips intended to hang voile curtains on a pole. Use those to attach the sheet to a strip of Kadar (?) which we had in the shed and stitched 2 lengths of tape to the bottom corners so that we can either tie them to the awning legs or peg them down.
Im not tight just like to make stuff :giggle:. Haven’t tried it out yet so it could be a complete disaster.

We like them too. I purchased extra roof tensioner poles, and put each end of the canopy with the windblockers on. much more sturdy, and can also fit the clamps to the canopy to stop it flapping in the breeze.

And you could have a shower in the awning, with an outside shower attachment - loads of room!:giggle:

We decided we needed some extra shade for this hot weather. So inspired by tales of shower curtains and the like we decided on a budget option. We moved smoothly from design through purchase and into manufacture in less than a day. Some rip stop fabric sewn expertly, some eyelets banged in less expertly, some awning slide in things with hooks from Amazon and a length of cord. About £30 for the lot and pretty pleased with the result. The rip stop fabric (other colours are available 😀) is super light as well.
