Likes and dislikes

Interesting to see the different things that people want. For us it was a toilet & settees long enough to lounge on at night. We saw a van with a rear U-shaped lounge quite recently & that became a requirement for us.

Our list of must haves in a motorhome is in no particular order
Well insulated A class
Good payload
Automatic gearbox
Front lounge that make use of the cab area
Separate toilet and shower with changing space
Double floor for when weather is cold
Rear twin beds with spacious garage underneath
Alde heating
Plenty of storage.
Good off grid capability

Oh hang on........... I have all that already. That's why it's a keeper. (y)

Our wants are fixed twin singles over large garage, decent toilet shower and oven.
Dont want, hab aircon, just weight and nothing to run it on.

As fulltimers....space...fixed bed...storage including garage..winterisation..headroom as I'm 6'4...full cooker..which we use everyday.. a large shower i can stand up and move around in, self sufficiency power wise ....all which we have

That is critical for us too - ignoring the middle of the night or first thing in the morning usage, it's great for days out when miles from anywhere.
But my brother, who has a toilet in has van, refuses to allow it to be used. Each to their own.
When I were a lad, Dad tugged a huge heavy Monza round France. We had a Porta Potti that was never ever used. Reason? Dad kept it taped down because he used to fill it up with a couple of gallons of wine and then rebottle it into demi-johns when we had snuck past French customs and got home. Totally true story!

I found that the fixed bed in our first MH although convenient it created dead space during the day which outweighed the advantage so my must haves include two singles that take less than 5 minutes to prepare, a reasonably sized loo and shower, space for the dog and it all should be packed in a maximum length of 7m.

My recently purchased Burstner t620 Nexxo ticks all our boxes...Comfy transverse bed, Garage, Good 3 -way Fridge, economical Ford Transit 2.2/140bhp. Each to their own.

Shower &toilet are first requirements.

Yes. I know a couple who have a new T6 ,only ever wild camp and don't have a toilet.
We have just seen a seen a German family at Falkirk wheel overnighting with a little VW camper, mam, dad and 2 kids, going into the trees for the toilet.

How they managed sleeping arrangements I will never know it was packed with bags and gear.

Must haves:
As near to PVC size as possible so we can go to all of the out of the way places we like which 'chubby/long' MHs can't get to.
Fixed table but preferably one that isn't overly large so doesn't get in the way
Minimum 3 ring hob, a grill is nice but not vital, oven not necessary.
Large fridge freezer, ideally at high level
Large fresh water tank absolute minimum 100lt
Beds must be fixed - either 2 singles or 2 doubles (one each end)
Shower and toilet, not needing to be separate but the shower must be sufficiently large to be usable and not have clingy curtains!
A Class preferred as better use of space
Large garage, plenty of storage & good payload
Must have good ground clearance so 16" wheels minimum
Must have a double floor with tanks etc inside it
Auto gearbox
Well insulated as I don't do 'cold'!

Not required:
Massive lounge as we like to use the swivelled captain's chairs with our feet up on the hab seats
Electric ring on cooker ... rarely go on sites or have EHU

Never want:
Compressor fridge - hated the one we had previously and would never willingly have one again - much prefer a 3-way.
Fixed transverse bed if this is the ONLY one ... I'm not ever clambering up over the ever growing 'mountain' of hubby's tummy again and my days of the perfect 'flip and flop' into the bed over him have well and truly gone.

We now have as close as possible the perfect MH for us already so we ain't looking to change it ever!

When we decided to change our AS Broadway for a PVC we had a list - size narrower than broadway, but 6.4m length ok; automatic; 2 fixed single beds with space under for folding mobility scooter, useable shower and loo, sufficient kitchen worksurface to be able to cook; solar panel. We had a big think about having just a two burner hob and decided we would be OK - and we have been (we do have a remoska) We wernt bothered about a windout awning - but it came with it anyway - havent used it yet in 12 months.

Decent lounge i can lie/slouch in, fixed bed i don't have to make up, separate toilet/ shower, ample storage, good heating, oven are all essentials.

Other things are just preferences /compromises

Getting rid of 7.4m Dethleffs with a huge (very comfortable) double bed - but dead space during the day. Replacing with 7.0m Chausson 630 with twin electric longitudinal beds. Just hoping we haven’t made a big mistake as Dethleffs has been great with no problems since new.
At the end of the day you make a decision and then live with it……….. until you change it! :giggle::giggle:

Looking at MHs and the vast array of layout's got me thinking what i deffo DO NOT/WANT in a van.

We DO NOT want dinette type seating/eating/lounging. Proper lounge and put up table for us (table is usually up once on site, takes seconds to put up)
We DO want beds that one can sit up and read in, not ones with cupboards above. One of lifes pleasurs for madam.
We DO want the ability to seperate the bedroom from the lounge.
We DO want gas AND electric hob.

Of course each to their own.
Any musts/not for you.
Large Garage for my New Bullit Motorbike

Are you sure it was never ever used. Someone could have taken a sly one when no-one was looking.

What she said, (apart from the mountain hubby) but then we do have the same MH.

Wheels that go around and an engine that works

Before we stepped into motorhome life we hired a motorhome to see if it something we wanted to try.
From what we found on that trip we knew the yes and no points deciding we would look for PVC preferably Transit based.
It was surprising how meany didn’t work for us. The beds were two short for me at 6ft tall or no shower for management.
We did find what we wanted in an Autosleeper Duetto.
The current coach build wasn’t what we were looking for as a replacement but it ticked all the boxes for us on first viewing. Large rear lounge making into a large double bed. Reasonable sized washroom and a kitchen that’s useable. Ample storage for the two of us.
If we had to change again I think the only change would be something newer and maybe a fixed bed PVC on a Sprinter, Crafter or Transit.

Which WildAx do you have Tea Bag?

Our local one has them. Can't afford to shop there, even with a £10 off a £40 spend voucher it was dearer than Lidl.
What have people been saying about having to pay for facilities you don't use :giggle:
