We've been motorhoming now for about 9 years. And I still get that feeling of being a kid in his home made den. Being a child of the 50's we made our own entertainment, and making a den in a field or the wood was all part of it. Not sure why, perhaps it's the cosiness inside, especially when the weather is not so good.
Anyone else get like this or is it just me ?

I never gave it much thought but yes!

I know exactly what you mean, used to make 'camps' when a kid in the local park, now just love the cosiness of our Inca, especially at night and when it's cold outside.

my pvc that I had built to my specification was definitely my adult den that took over from the homemade camp I had as a girl under the kitchen table..
(wasn’t allowed to make camps in the woods)

Rosa was my adult sanctuary/den, I loved that van, now gifted to my daughter for her future enjoyment..

Yes, exactly as you described… I sometimes go out and sit in it on the drive, especially if raining…☺️

me too used to do that, and daydreaming about the next adventure away..

When I’m not worrying about what might go wrong ( thank you Motorhome fun!) I still find it hard to believe I actually own a motorhome!
Me, the wife and the dog, cruising through Europe, eco and cruise control set, on decent roads, bliss.
Sure beats camping in Patrol Tents looking after cubs!

We definitely love being in the van in winter when it's icy outside. Almost better than being at home in same weather, mostly as its so cozy.

In fact we've now spent the last 2 Christmases in the van, this is the first year (2025) we won't be (already got plans). There is something special about a campsite in winter season and we love all the vans with their xmas dec's out, which is a bit like den building as a kid. I don't have a photo, but the caravan near next to us at Blackmore this christmas even had an inflatable snowman out with his lights!

Our MH is a cosier 'den' than the boat was in poor weather, but there was not much of that in Greece.

However, sometimes parked next to a Greek beach I think about sailing off to the next island, then wake up realising I have got a MH not a boat.

I'll be camping a field in Snowdonia for a week starting tomorrow..
Hike tents rather than Patrol tents,
and Explorer Scouts (14-18 year old) rather than Cub Scouts

But in May, it's full Group Camp, 100+ kids, Squirrels (4-6 year olds) Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers.
And every tent, including the 30+ year old Patrol tents, will be pulled out of the QM's stores (whom, as we all know, has dim eyes .....)

Thanks for that Brains, that campfire song is now firmly placed in my head!

Hi.
" 30 yr old Patrol tents.. " I still remember a " Square Bell " Tent ( OLD in the early 50's ) and the lads with me. " Dougy Pearson . Hedley Hunter and myself, we rode out a storm one night on an annual camp, when the troop left their tents and went into the barn. The three of us stayed put. 105th Derby YMCA. Mr Cook Scout leader,
Power to your elbow. You will/are making memories that later on the lads will cherish. Happy safe camping.
