LIFE AFTER HELGA !!!!

Also,,, I’m thinking of starting a YouTube Chanel,, I have no idea how to start a subject or title, no idea how to edit videos etc, no idea about any of it really ( yet) but it def is something I’m interested in,,, I think it would be good fun!! I realise I’m getting a bit old maybe, but there’s still a bit of life in the old dog yet! Any suggestions,, name of the Chanel etc, subject? Whatever,,,,, and anyone with any experience of the system, editing , posting etc,,, all info gratefully accepted!! Xxxx
We had exactly the same thought, but to be honest with you it was more of a way to archive some video for when we/the kids are older (assuming of course YouTube doesn't vanish overnight!).
Some initial tips for you :
-Don't worry about recording in 4k or anything to start off with, your phone camera set to 1080 is fine.
-DaVinci Resolve is an insanely powerful piece of editing software and is free to use.
-If you are doing anything with you talking, get a decent mic. The Boya brand are cheap and work very well for the money. If it is just you talking, you can get a lav mic (one that clips to your shirt) and will plug into the headphone socket of your phone, for under 15 quid.
-Editing eats hard-drive space for breakfast. You'll be amazed at the amount of footage you will have and then end up with a 5 minute video from it.
-From our limited experience, "How-To" videos get a lot more views and interest than places of interest videos do.
-Accept that your first videos will be bad. Really bad! You'll quickly find out what works and what doesn't and can then tailor what you include in a video to suit.
_YouTube has a reasonable selection of Royalty-free music you can use. Don't use anything that's copyrighted or your video will be very quickly taken down. There are other places for free-to-use music, just send me a message if you're interested and I can point you in the right direction.

Anything else, just ask. There's a link in my sig at the bottom to our latest video if you want to see another persons very amateur efforts!!

It's a pity you're just a builder Ian, I've watched a few videos where plumbers and pizza delivery guys seem to get an inordinate piece of the action !

Nice to hear from you darlin,, hope all is well,, x
Just got back from Cornwall and now have to isolate 🙁 it rained most of the week so I’m happy to be home in the garden. Dead chuffed to hear things are picking up for you Ian xx

Ok,, time for an update,, on various topics!!!

I’m still working, and busy enough at present! I am a member of two organisations now, My Builder, which is a pay as you go system,, the customer or potential customer places their wants or needs on tge site, which I then get a pop up for, explaining the job, then if I’m interested in trying to get the job, I press an “express interest” button, which alerts tge customer to me, they then can look at your details and they shortlist you for the job,, now at that stage, when shortlisted, you pay the amount my builder tells you it is, anything from £3.00 to £30 ( typically)
The big but is that you don’t get to clarify anything with the customer before you pay,, so if the lead is just an enquiry, and I have been to see people that don’t really know what they want before you go! And some even change their minds before you get tgere,, but you’ve already paid and your screwed if it’s not a real job!

The second one I have just joined, about 3 weeks ago is called “ Chekertrade” now this one is a monthly fee, in my case £140, that’s the most expensive joining fee because I’m not tied in for any length of time, I could commit for a year and save £40 odd quid but I just wanted to try it first!

Now this one is different, I don’t get to know about anything in advance, this time tge customer has a job he needs/ wants doing and looks at a load of suppliers/ builders details first, then they get in touch with me directly,, no single random fee, same monthly cost wether I get one call or 30,,, So far I have had 26 profile views, 22 of which have contacted me,, got and done 3 jobs so far, and have a list of people to see in the next week or so,, after work, and weekends!
I much prefer the quality of the Chekertrade customers enquiries, at least they are, or all seem really genuine!!

just coming to the end of an extension in the next week or so, and looking for another largish job to get me into the latter months!

well that’s work!!!

Now the drama with the feuding neighbors !!
It seems that the instigator and trouble maker has finally got the better of it,, Steve, my neighbor has moved up to Essex with his partner, her family live there,, he has left the flat fully furnished and he is not coming back, but he’s waiting for the housing association to rehome him, they said they will so that’s due, he thinks soon!!

she, the upstairs agitator,, has been placed on a good neighbour scheme, I don’t know what that is, but apparently she has to behave,, now me and tge otger tenant, who is also a builder, are running a book on who she starts on next, lol. We shall see !!!!
Havnt bothered to go out, socially, not really interested, just happy working, sleeping, and a bit of tv! Trying to save a few quid, not going bad, and I’m banging in to premium bonds whatever I can at the moment,,, no interest but it’s easily redeemable, and you never know I might win the odd few quid!! ( wouldn’t it be nice to get some free money! )

so that’s it really,, flats good,, works good,, health is good, family all good,, van running well,, and looking forward to some proper sun, then I can moan at work about being too hot,, lol.

hope your all well, families all good,, and life is treating you well,,,, Don’t be shy about advising me on anything, I love tge interaction,, Don’t talk to many people these days! Lololol.

see you later,, xxxxxxxxx

Was wondering about you the other week.

ianthebuilder. Good evening Ian pal. :)

It is good to see you posting again, and sounding really positive. I'm glad things are ticking along nicely for you, and that life is good. (y)

You take care.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Hi Ian glad things are going well, with Checkatrade it's important to get good feedback from customers, that's what keeps you at or near the top of the lists. We always had the forms with us, and at the end of the job asked them to fill it in, we then took it away and sent it in, ourselves, if you rely on the customer to post it, or go on line and do feedback you will only get about half of them.

How about a rental property with house prices at 15% this year and looking to do the same next year.

Also staycation mean that holiday let's are a cert for the next few years!!

Cheers James

No you don't want to be doing it like that, let me tell you where you are going wrong.

No, just kidding, glad to see you are knuckling down to what you do best and what you are trained for.
Good luck in everything ian (y) (y) :winky:

Great to hear things are going well in your world Ian, and that you've got plenty of business on.

Enjoy the sunshine! (y)

Great to hear everything's going well Ian. We've used checkatrade a few times to find a tradesman, always leave a review. Not so keen on the way My Builder works.

We have a modest amount in premium bonds. I've had a few £25 prizes but Brian, nothing. You never know 🤞

You wouldn't recognise our back garden now but we still haven't got round to levelling out the big hole you dug for the soakaway :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Stay safe (watch those kettles) and remember, all work and no play makes Ian a dull boy ;)

Love Karen & Brian xx

I wouldn’t rush to cover the hole up Karen,, you never know you might need it to get rid of his motorbike! Lolol xxxxx

Glad your doing well, I’ve had bonds since I was a kid (grandad bought them for me ) never won a penny .I have a small private pension that trickles along I put in £20 a month. Its gone up nearly 10k in two years even with the rollercoaster of the pandemic,it’s doing better than my work pension

Evening all !!

How are you?? I’ve been and am still busy,, just ripping a bathroom apart for a plumber tomorrow, in tge house I’m building a sun room/ extension on,, dug trenches last week, missed tge rain thank god,, it’s a terraced house and all materials etc have to be taken out through a back lane, past four houses, onto the path and back to the front of this one,, I reckon it’s going to put at least a week on the job, having to bring all materials round,, took about 12 ton of soil away, and skipped, and Friday concreted then trenches, after the building inspector said all’s good! Tge only thing the job has in its favour is that it’s near tge beach, and the digging was quite easy, and we only had to go down to tge sand!! Still about 8/900 ml deep but all good now!

All concrete was knocked up by hand, and my little mixer, and we only filled it 500 ml, so I’m laying trench blocks from Tuesday, ( if your interested) , lol.

So got work till early next year ( if people can wait) so I’m happy,,, Stewart is working a few days a week as well, which helps him and me!!

Horrible weather today, let’s hope it stops raining till Xmas eve! Lol.

Couple of pics of trenches and pipes we found, this is where I shall be spending the next couple/ few weeks!

Hope you are all well and enjoying life!

Ps,,, my friend Vilma is happy with a man in her life, a Lithuanian lad, looks ok, and she reports that all’s good! He’s looking for a bit of work soon so hopefully I may be able to help him out,, he doesn’t speak much English though, and I don’t speak Lithuanian,,, But I can gesture swear words in any language, so I’m sure he will understand! Lol.

See you later! Xxxxxx 4385A09F-321B-4B6B-ADE2-9B1C3D06D9DA.jpeg074EE038-65CA-41D5-ABFD-28F5C5970E33.jpeg

Great to get an update Ian and delighted there's still plenty of work on the go. (y)

Good job you got the concrete in the trenches. Thinking we might need an Ark around here we've had so much rain... ;)
