I don’t think I have seen this mentioned on here so thought I’d share what I was watching today during all the rain

Interesting information on up plating your van and the fact you no longer get the tax reduction to £165 or refund. You can up plate but your road tax stays the same
Some big changes that will affect motorhome users with potential for fines
SV Tech are not happy about it.

I am interested to know how old that item is.

My V5C has had all weights updated from 3500kg to 4200kg except the Revenue weight. However they refuse to change the N1 Category even though all legal documentation that I can find says that N1 is only applicable to vehicles with a gross weight of 3500kg or less.

Regarding the 'Van with windows' speed limits it is generally accepted if booked for speeding above the van speed limits but below the Motor Caravan limit photographs of the vehicles conversion to motor caravan presented to the court will squash any subsequent speeding penalties.

It also seems from very recent reports of conversions requiring graphics is no longer the case after someone presented a graphical presentation to the DVLA of certain factory builds (i.e. VW Grand California) not displaying any graphics but always being accepted a Motor Caravan.

Yes they were pointing out upcoming potential changes. But the tax change is already in from what they said

Not heard anything about that. How would that affect vans already uprated? To be honest I cannot see how this could be happening without some major changes to the system which surely we'd know about.

The only changes I heard about are that EV's will be paying tax from 2025.

If you listen from 17.28 he says its only just been changed and if you do it now you will not get the reduction.

If you have already done the up plate it's not a problem.

He does state that S V Tech have been in contact with local MP and him highlighting the upcoming issues this will cause due to DVLA not showing the MTPLM as your new weight.

I have looked at my V5 and have a revenue weight of 3900 private HGV but even on mine it shows the MTPLM as 3500

I have just spoken to SV Tech and the very helpful lady said Motorhome Matt has been contacted to correct some of what he said. One of those was the fact that 3500 shows on the MTLP and could result in a fine. Apparently this has always been the same.

But SV Tech confirmed he is correct on the revenue change. You will no longer get £165 for private HGV if applying now.

If you already have it you keep it.

When I up-plated our van, I included a note reminding the DVLA to put the correct up-plated weight in the MTPLM line on my V5, which of course they didn't.
I rang the DVLA and asked them, would a French plod be acting on the weight I was paying VED for or what the MTPLM weight said on my V5, and they agreed that it was the figures in the MTPLM that plod would be interested in, so I insisted that a new V5 was issued with the correct up-plated weight in the MTPLM which they did.

It begs the question. Is it an up plate or is the motorhome already specked at over 3500 from factory?

That could make a difference. Maybe buying new is the only way to get £165 but I think they will have closed that loophole

Personally I never noticed and as this has not been raised as an issue on here before as far as I'm aware or I have missed it.

Another point on what you are saying SV Tech said they always have left it at 3500 and that was normal and ok. so plenty of up plated vans around with 3500 on the MTLP

I would add that personally some random person in DVLA would have no idea what French plod would act on as they haven't got a bloody clue what they are doing let alone the French but I accept what you are saying and would have preferred 3900 on mine.
