Les Saisies Aire closed by Gendarmarie tonight

We were all settled in the Aire on the Col de Saisies ahead of the TdF tomorrow (we have been here about a week mountain biking and hillwalking) and the Gendarmarie arrived with a couple of motorbikes and 4 cars at 2000h and have closed the Aire and made everyone (100 vans?) leave this evening.
The reason given is the farmers are having a manifestation (protest) about agrisanitary restrictions due to an outbreak of "lumpy skin disease" in Chambrey earlier this week that has resulted in a cattle herd being culled and restrictions on livestock movement and sale of dairy
Not sure if this protest is limited to gain traction / publicity due to tomorrow TdF stage from Alberville to La Plagne or if it is going to be a wider set of restrictions
Will find out more tomorrow.
Lucky we know someone who lives in Les Saisies, and they have let stay on their driveway

Far from ideal. :-(

I was just thinking exactly that. I would refuse to move.

I was up that way a week or two ago. Cracking ride up on the scooter from Beaufort. We were there for the Etape tour de France. Great day out. We did think about staying for the real one and almost went down to Huez area today for the Col du Glandon but decided not to bother.

There was a recovery truck present at the end. I suspect to move vans that refused to go. Staying was not an option.

I bet they're mad ..... The locals, who spend considerable time getting their streets and towns ready and decorated, as opposed to the cows ....!

I have long believed that its all part of a conspiracy to get the local Marie's to smarten up their towns every now and again by picking routes through them !!!

There's been stricter inspections on meat imports from several European countries for a few weeks already.

I bet it was fun all those 100 motorhomes moving off at the same time down that mountain. Where did they all go at that time of night? We had a perfect spot for the Etape race at Le Planey above Areches. We were often on our own up there and could see the Col du Pre from the van. The good thing about that race with 16000 riders is it went on all day and we went to four locations to see it on the bike.

The Aire is back open today. I think the farmers made their point about raising their issue on the national aagenda and had threatened to blockade the route if they did not get concessions
It gave me the excuse for a super technical enduro downhill to Villard to catch the sprint, then ride back up the hill.

Blimey! I did that exact route on the scooter a week or two ago and all I can say is you must be Tour de France fit!! Wow!

Never had to argue with them. On the many times we have been pulled over or questioned by them on the bike they have been nothing but reasonable and very pleasant. I am sure they would not insist you move a vehicle had you been drinking.
