Hi,
We are consider one of two motorhomes: 2017 Hymer Ex 578 - 4 Berth and a 2017 Dethleffs Trend T7057 EB - 2/3 Berth.
We really like the Hymer and its been reduced to £57K due to Left hand drive.
We are a little unsure of the Left hand drive, but think on balance its not really an issue.
Does anyone have any advice on driving in the UK with this setup?

Was just thinking about LHD vehicles the other day when at the M6 toll. How do you get around that and other entries / exits when intercoms and pay stations are on the right in the UK, especially when driving alone ?

Personally prefer RHD. Never had a problem driving it in the roads we travel on abroad but a friend with a LHD is a very slow driver down some of the narrower roads we visit in England.

How is insuring a LH drive I recall not all insurance companies will quote on a LH drive is this the case ?
LV underwriters dont seem to take lhd on. Ive insured in with comfort and previously NFU with no surcharge or issue

Dealer is Inverness, so apparently that's why...
The majority of LHD car and van dealers are in the Midlands and have been for 60+years.all are at a premium to RHD.
LHD is always going to be harder to sell.
Might have a lower amount wanting lhd but unless seller is uninformed always command a premium.

I never had problems insuring lhd cars and van's in the UK even when I was only 22.

Unbelt and slide across if no passenger. If too hard get out and walk around.take no notice of the halfwit behind.

I have a LHD Dethleff at the moment, has every gadget that could be fitted to a van!
Simon Select I think you need some more left hookers, people specifically looking for them will find you (providing you use the keywords when advertising) you could end up being the “go to” man for left hookers for people like me who prefer them👍👍

Also the overlanding scene doesn’t look like it’s subsiding anytime soon, maybe you could procure some of them👍

Simon Select You can thank me when you’re a millionaire😉👍🤣🤣🤣

I know you can insure LH obviously as no one would be driving one all I was asking is if your choice of insurance companies are more limited for LH drive compared to RH drive tkk answered my question 👍🏻

I’ve never had a rhd Motorhome and it’s unlikely I ever will, in over 30 years never had a problem with LHD, buying, selling, insuring, or driving. Very occasionally a problem looking right at some junctions but you learn to approach and point slightly right so you can normally see no problem, and even in the U.K. I prefer to drive a left hooker,

When I had an apartment in Spain, I was hiring LHD vehicles. The only issue was that I tended to reach into the door pocket for the handbrake. As for driving RHD motorhome "over there", I find the height of the driving position mitigates much of the disadvantage. LHD in the UK would give you a closer view of the potholes, most of which are nearer the kerb.

Just do as the foreign truckers do at UK Toll Booths, ie, slide over to the opposite window, or get out and walk round. (y)

Before Dartford became a Camera Scanning Toll System, I used to avoid getting in a lane behind a foreign registered truck, as you could be stuck there for ages. :(

We've only owned 2 x MHs, and both were/are LHD. I find it easier to drive a LHD over here, than a RHD over there.

Cheers,

Jock. :)
