Look what my boss made me for my birthday, a patchwork quilt, double, possibly king. I nearly burst into tears, it is ever so beautiful. No two squares are the same. It's taken her two months to make. Just can't believe she'd put all that effort in and then give it to me, she hasn't even made one for her mum yet.

What a lovely gift.

Happy birthday from me too

Whisper very quietly, 't was a big un at the weekend. Interesting to think though that 10 years ago I would have called you mad if you would have told me I'd be living in a motorhome spending most of my time off drawing and painting. Things can change a lot.

Happy birthday, what a lovely present 🎁

"Tiles" lap blanket (made up as I went along) and the make up as I go along lap blanket in progress made with Stylecraft "Life Changes" now discontinued which is a pity as it's a really nice yarn to work with.

I told you I had been busy! I am also signed up to help make a replica of our local castle in knitting / crochet - hopefully not life size :) I'm not sure if there will be a pattern or if I will be given dimensions and a sketch.

I really like the effect of the clusters between the long stitches in the last photo - I might make a jacket for myself using that technique with black background and the clusters done in jewel colours :) When we go for our round the world cruise (or cruises!) I could wear it for formal nights if it turns out okay.

Finally got my sewing room unpacked, organising it is another matter 🤣

As I’ve not been able to do any quilting recently, I’ve been crocheting instead.
Here are a couple of my latest makes, both Helen Shrimpton designs

Sacred Space in ssdk (shown on a king size bed but is destined for a smaller double)

Chrysalis, they are amazing. So big, how do you deal with that? It's one thing to do squares but these are both in the round. Maybe have the entire sofa to yourself? How long did the last round take you?

I much prefer working in the round as I loathe joining squares. The last round usually takes me 1-2 hours but I’m quite slow!
Chrysalis

Oh Alice I can't compete with that - I think I'll give up now.

They are lovely and must have been quite a challenge.
Auntie Pam, you got me started, you have created a crochet monster 🤣🤣🤣
Really, these patterns are so well written, I love the textures.

They're both stunning, Chrysalis
I especially like the first one ❤️

Me too. I must look up that pattern.

Downloaded so it is something I might take on holiday with me ...... I love it done all in white - it would also look fabulous with pale blue as an accent colour and make a lovely wedding gift .... maybe made in a light cotton or similar, finer yarn and make 4 squares ? I am incapable of following a pattern and NOT changing it!

I like the white too, very classy. I looked at the examples on the Helen Shrimpton website and much prefer yours in just one colour Chrysalis.
I'm the opposite, Puddleduck , I have to have a pattern to follow. I did successfully adapt a baby cardigan pattern to be able to knit the back and fronts all in one piece but it took quite a lot of working out and writing down, I can't do it "on the fly".

My grandfather's aunt (born in the 1880s and lived well into her 90s so I knew her) was a demon at crochet. She was a nursing sister and worked nights so lots of doing nothing during the night. To keep awake she would crochet in sewing cotton (cheap and easily available). My Mum has a few of the doilies she made which look really fragile but are tough and strong. I sometimes think I should try making things in finer thread as it would take me a lot longer. I crochet and knit fast.

How on earth can you all see such fine wool/cotton/nylon to work!!!!!!

Usually I don't look and it is all done by feel / touch (oohh aahh missus). But I do have a one of these (not that brand as I've had mine a while)

Amazon product ASIN B07P957H9Z
and I also have a magnifying glass.

I'm just looking at the really fine steel crochet hooks I have, goodness knows where they came from!

Sizes 4 1/2, 5 and 5 1/2 (must be old style sizes) plus a 13 and a 1.5 mm. I need to research! Looking closer the size 4 1/2 also has a 21. They are very fine!

Chrysalis Alice that's a whole different level the they're both beautiful but the White one is just stunning.

I'd also say I go by feel more than sight.
The smallest hook I have is 0.6mm. Because they have sharpish points I do end up with a sore left index finger although I am developing a nice hard pad there...
What I am doing at the moment is 1.25mm which is pretty big for me :giggle:
