Hi,
Anyone have any experienced views on the N10 option versus the tolled A10 section?
Thanks

Aren't they swapping over to gantry cameras? Big Brother is always watching and all that. I've always found I've made satisfactory progress on the N10 anyway. You do get a 'lorra, lorrra lorries' though.
What is the approximate cost of tolls, N10 vs A10? I'm traveling from Dieppe to Bordeaux in a couple of weeks

Go to via Michelin and put your route in with car and caravan (to give you classes 2 on tolls) then do a route with and without tolls.

Yes they diverge miles apart...
I meant how do you miss the toll booths? You still have to pay even if you skip one. Don't they charge for the distance traveled actually on the road? So when you rejoin you still have to go through a toll booth?

on the A64 bordeaux to Spain there are a couple of bits you can come off and use road adjacent to mway and rejoin next junction to miss a couple of toll booths.

But on the A10 I don't think is possible to jump off it onto N10 to miss anything cos as I said they diverge miles apart. Perhaps Nigel Crompton can explain what he meant and where he meant.

There was a post on here a couple of years back that explained that Motorhomes over 3.5T have an exemption in France which allows them to drive above the 80/90kph limits. So on motorways and dual carriageways the limit is 110kph. My SatNav used to say it was 80/90kph on the N10 but changed a year or so ago to say 100kph which is generally what I do when on the N10. Unfortunately I can't find the original post - I have searched but to no avail. I've never been done for speeding on the N10 and I've passed many a speed camera.

Just found the post, it was here - https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/speed-limits-in-france.261905/post-5019830 -
Section II) A solo motorhome which has a gross vehicle weight over 3.5 tonne; unless otherwise signposted and on dry roads the speed limit in kilometres per hour is: –
  • On autoroutes (motorway) 110kph (68mph);
  • On dual carriageways 100kph (62mph);
  • Single carriageway 80kph (50mph);
  • In towns 50kph (31mph). The town name starts the limit; a horizontal bar through the town name is the derestriction sign.

On the N10 the signage indicates the speed limits and vehicle restrictions, similar to this example.

Regardless of the maximum speed limits for certain vehicles on certain roads, if signage indicates otherwise, then the lower limits apply.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Overhead gantry camera watching everywhere- they pick up the tag fine- you can also pre-register a card- or go on line and pay within 72hrs

We’ve travelled up the N10 from Angouleme and currently sat in the free airepark in Vivonne centre.

Lovely toll free run all the way, it’s a good road tbh 👍

It's much much better now they've finished the road improvements, plus controlling the heavy lorries overaking. They used to pull out irrespective of who was alongside, and could take ages to do so at barely any speed differential. Bless them!! .

Isn’t the advice other way round? Off the N10 onto A10 ( not A28) to void tours and Poitiers?

We have traveled the N10 more times than we can count over the 30 years. As many have said, there can be a lot Lorrie’s on the N10, now ask your self why they chose that route?
Via Michelin select it (Poitiers to Bordeaux) as the only choice

We used part of it last week, can't see the problem, I have always been able to do 55-60mph most of the time, try doing that on almost any road in the UK.
