You’ve forgotten to add your bit 😳🤔
And Creative, Pure, Jabra, LG, Mazda, Skoda, Anker, Logitech, Subaru, Honda, Peugeot, Garmin, etc. would question the “Apple knobble there devices so they often only talk to other Apple devices” part of what you quoted.
 
Tried that. It won’t work in either Of the AV options.
 
It is frustrating- esp. as it used to work.
From your ICE instruction manual, there are several setup areas that could’ve reset & need checking: -

I’d check: Bluetooth, iPod & AV-in
Must be one of those that can help.
 
Thanks. I’ve been through all these menus and checked. Can’t see anything wrong, and where I wasn’t sure if it was right, I’ve tried each alternative.
 
Painful isn’t it?

in my little 58 plate pug my iPhone SE would not provide CarPlay functions to that car’s ICE
I tried iOS FW upgrades & downgrades but no luck.

Worse, mrskevenh’s 5E & my salesmen’s X worked straightaway.
weeks later I found out my lightning socket had been mashed up by a cheap cable.
Anyway, my solution was a new iPhone 😳

Never had a problem connection an iPhone or an iPad to anything with Bluetooth. Bluetooth is a standard - sometimes you do need to turn off bluetooth on one or both devices and turn it back on in order to at first get a pairing
