We’re travelling back to Britain in early December and need a place to stay (and empty all our tanks) the night before. Can anyone suggest a campsite within 30 miles of the Tunnel? Or a very safe aire with the necessary dumping points?
I can only find the site at Montreuil sur Mer which isn’t that great in my opinion. Do any of you seasoned channel hoppers know of anywhere else?
Thanks, as always, for your recommendations.

Well tbf, our last stop coming back is Cite Europe. Now, there are no facilities there but depending on which direction we are coming from, then use the site the previous night.
There is minimal black waste, minimal grey water and I don't have a problem dumping any excess clean water (although I have done that on this side (depending on how much wine in bringing back)).
I agree about Montreuil sur Mer and Wissant is no better but I'm convinced there'll be dozens of valid suggestions soon.

At the Carrefour fuel station at Cité Europe there is an aire, if you don't need fuel drive through the unmanned 24hr section and the aire is on the exit road.
Cheers
Ed

Not sure what 'isn't great' about Montreuil.
The Aire itself is clean, level and the town lovely and kms of walks on/round the walls.
There is a big car park next door and if the school busses aren't running you can stop on there, as to it being safe....is anywhere safe?
Montreuil is as safe as anywhere, we have stayed there a number of times now and find it fine!
There's an Aire at Watten.

Maybe a little to far away for you but we stayed at campercontact 13626 on our way up a few weeks ago. Small village of the beaten track with water, and waste drops as well as 16amp hookup. €5 nightly and additional€3 if you use the hookup. We had couple of nights to chill before getting back to the manicness of the UK.

Expensive at 15 euro but the Aire by the marina at Le Touquet is nice. 70km to the tunnel about an hour away.

Now at cite Europe they have opened a emptying point at the filling station just around the corner, so now you can do everything there(y);)

Camping Olympic, Wimereux. Lovely seaside town, about 15-20 mins from the tunnel.

We always stay at Baie de Somme services on the toll section of the A16, just north of Abbeville. It is exactly 1 hour - 60 miles - motorway all the way to the tunnel. The approximately €12 euro cost to use the peage up to Bolougne is offset by the excellent overnight stop in the caravan parking area, which is more like a camp site with lots of grass, picnic tables and fine views. It's well away from the terminal, so quiet and friendly with plenty of other MHs as well as caravans staying there. The police and security patrol regularly and, contrary to popular advice, we always feel safe there.

At the service area terminal there are all the normal services, including showers. It also has all the facilities for MHs with dumping for black and grey waste, as well as fresh water and even a limited number of free hook-ups (which we've never used).

Is that the ferry Terminal or the train Terminal please?

It depends which direction you are coming from.

There are plenty of equally good options in pretty much every direction.

The most obvious one for the tunnel is the new Calais aire.

We used gravelines service area , ideal water & toilet dump , water extra . But it's just north of the tunnel.

Obviously gravelines is my favourite but was just trying to change my tune for once;)(y):)

When travelling North, we use an aire on a farm about an hour from the tunnel/Calais, a fiver a night with waste and water included.

Super quiet and safe..

We often use the aire at Wissant. It's free, grey & black waste points, a ten minute walk from the town (good boulangerie :D ) and another couple of minutes to the beach.

If you're coming in from the East then Watten is good.

We usually stop at Bergues on the way back. No emptying or water but can empty a bit of grey at my storage site and just take the cassette home to empty.

So do tell.

Where is it?(n)

I use the D901 to Calais..

@Les from Suffolk
Many thanks!

It's always useful to have recommendations from people who have actually used an Aire or Campsite. The mini-map is a great idea.(y)

We have used Ferme d'horologe but WC point is disgusting, also there is an Aire in Calais Rue d'ansfeld we have used which is good that you can either stay on or just pay to use services and a lot of folk use Cite Europe, the services are at the petrol station I believe.
