Last night I had a visitor

Well I'm hoping that I've got rid of the rat. If I haven't then he's got a long walk home.

I'm going to have to replace the gaiter, and they seem to want silly money if you look on the LDV sites. It looks as if the gaiter may be the same as the one on some of the Freelanders, and they are a lot cheaper. It would make sense for BL to share these components between models. I need to find a site with a compatibility list, as a lot of LDV components are shared with other vehicles. My engine is the Mondeo/Transit one for example.

Couple of things to try? (if you haven't already), Often there is a code number pressed into rubber parts. entering that (if it exists) into a search engine might get a hit?. Some E-Bay supplier sites have a "does this fit your model" listing, where you enter year and make to get a hit.

EDIT:- BTW. We had what at first we thought was a black "rat", after further research, we think it is a Siberian Mink:-

Apparently several have been seen locally down by the old disused Canal.

Useless Information:- allegedy in the UK you are never more that a couple of yards from Rats.

I had heard him chewing through the bottom of a plastic bag I was using for rubbish. He seems to have run off when I put the light on, and I collected the ripped bag and strewn rubbish into another

I'm assuming from that you had left a bag of rubbish outside.

Therfore what do you expect?

You invited the rat to dinner ...he had his starter and came in for the main course

That's how London got plagued with rats too.

Folk leaving rubbish lying around

From memory I think they are called Siberian Hamsters.

As a teenager I kept and bred Siberian hamsters , I had over 40 at one time ha ha

I sold them to the local pet shop at 25p each but at one point they were breeding faster than petshop could sell them so I ended up with loads of them

I don't leave any rubbish outside, in fact I often pick it up, and put it in a bin.

They bag was a supermarket plastic job that I was using inside the van. It was next to the gear lever. It was rubbish that attracted the rat though. It is the stuff that the low grade customers who frequent McD throw out of their windows. Sometimes the food is so bad that even the rats leave it alone.

It makes a change from Asda - you get seagulls marching around on the roof during the day there.

Ah sorry I thought you had said the rubbish bag was outside and hed been at that before coming in

My mistake.

I see people doing this all the time wild camping leaving rubbish bags hanging from mirrors or sat by the wheel etc

I'm pretty shocked by the amount of stuff that is discarded in car parks, lay-byes and by the road.. Sometimes it's only a few feet from a litter bin as well.

The thing that amazes me most is that people actually go to McDonalds for the food, and not just for the WiFi and coffee. - and then they throw it away. :)

My local commercial garage service the refuge lorries and have said they often get the lorries in for chewed looms and while you work on the lorry you can hear the rats running backwards and forwards inside the chassis .
