As we meandered through France in the wind and/or rain watching the Italian weather forecasts
When we reached the med coast decided to turn right into Spain
Been in Altea a couple of weeks. Mixed bag of weather but generally sunny and pleasant.
No rain but a cold wind so no fun to sit out in the evening
We will sit in Spain for a month before deciding about visiting Italy.

off agin today, around a 8 day slow drive back to italy, pick ami up on the 21st,then another 3 weeks tour as far as rome, might even get back for stratford, but that's a long diversion to benidorm lol

parked up now near narbonne france, had a brilliant 4 nights in benicarlo,i agree with the reports on it,great place, warning for ppl traveling on there own there always try to use the site prices if over 3 nites it works out much cheaper than acsi,i paid just over 15euro per night instead of 17euro,and the wifi although 2 euro a day is one of the fastest i have ever used on a campsite, may make 2 quick runs from here back to lake garda,so long as im there for the 21st np

left sirmione this mornin now pitched at lido de jesolo on camping malibu beach great site,17e with acsi will go venice tomorrow, after a chill here then we will be off to florence

Help for Italy trip, please.

We have decided (last minute) to travel to Italy next weekend 9 Oct 16 and have had no real chance to plan as we had a long term family ilness that prevented it due to the uncertainty.
We now have a window from the above date for just under four weeks and would like to go to the Lakes first and perhaps a little further south if time permits. While it would be great to visit other places if possible, we don't want to be on the move constantly as this is more of an exploratory trip for future visits, hopefully. We have in mind a nice amble once in Italy.
We would like to avoid tolls as much as possible heading down to Italy but are not averse to using them when it is a sensible alternative. It seems to me that Belgium, Germany and Switzerland is a good route - avoiding most tolls but, from there we are not sure which route through Switzerland would be best. We know nothing about which are the better lakes to visit and would appreciate advice regarding that and also, relevant campsites.
We think a stopover near or in Luxembourg would be as much as we could manage for the first night if anyone can recommend a stopover?
We are 4.25t, 7.45m and under 3m if that helps. We know nothing about what we need for traversing Swtzerland or where and when to pay...given our size and weight...advice appreciated.
From reading a few posts it would seem that, weatherwise, it could be hot but, that's about it.
We don't have an endless budget so, any advice would have to bear that in mind although, we have made provision for extra spends on the holiday and want to enjoy it.
Lake Garda seems to be mentioned a lot but again, have never been to Italy proper so, need some pointers. I should say that we have travelled around France, Spain and Portugal for extended periods in the past so, are not complete novices but require plain, sensible advice and relevant facts for the trip if possible, which would be very much appreciated indeed.
Thanks in advance. Steve

Working on a tablet so not up for much typing. Search "the Italian Job" quite old thread but it's all in there. Search "Swiss vignette" and a guide to what you need will pop up. Peschiera del Garda is a perfect place to stop, road, rail, boat gives you all options inc Venice for a day trip.

We came back from Croatia via Venice, Lake Garda, Lake Varese, then into Switzerland using the Simplom Pass and made our way to Lake Lausanne and did not need a Vignette as we stayed off the motorways, the Simplom Pass was quite a good road (HGV,s using it) and we are 7 meters and 3800kg and had no problems. We stopped at a Camper stop in St Leonard in Switzerland, obviously you would do the trip in the reverse order. Hope this helps.
