KTM Bust

BMW have had huge issues, drive shaft failure (now given almost a lifetime warranty), engine casing & final drive corrosion, (many changed under warranty) but they still know the RSU will fail and outside of warranty you struggle to get "good will". And FYI even if you take extended warranty the RSU isn't covered if you have done more than 30K miles. But... they often do listen and if the dealer is on side with you you stand a good chance of stuff getting sorted. All manufacturers have issues, even Rolls Royce have a warranty department.

BMW have had huge issues, .....
They do appear to only 95% develop their bikes...the last 5% is done by their Beta testers...or rather, the first few hundred buyers of said product. I recall my first BMW was an 1150 GS in 2001. Sold on the promise of it being great for big trips, high miles etc. 2 years later I was having a nosey round the brand new 1150 GS Adv and the sales guy sucked thru his teeth when I said my 2yr old GS had close to 30k miles on it....'Ooh, that's high...' (It obviously was in comparison to most....anyway, for once, he got his sums wrong, gave me £1k more for mine AND knocked an extra £1k off the GSA so I bought it there and then.......)

Indeed, the new 1300GS is having significant issues. My mates said to me, "why don't you wait till the new one comes out?", my answer.. "never buy the first of anything". I was in the bike industry for a few years at the sharp end of testing and whatever we found wrong with them you can be sure the punters found something else to break which we hadn't.

My last two BMW's a GT1200 and GT1300 were absolute workshop hounds, they were never out of it with recurring faults, It first broke down on the way home from the dealership! When it broke down (again) in Sunderland the attendee promptly broke the fuel injection system by ripping it off and also damaging the fairing. Wiring harness failures, wheel bearing(s) and hassock fork failings, centre stand collapsing, instrument failure and switch gear failure, starter motor failure, clutch collapse, there were a total of 23 breakdowns in two years and BMW would not acknowledge there might be a problem, refusal to pay claims for accommodation and out of pocket expenses as we had gone direct to a dealership and not used the call out system after our experience in Sunderland. One can accept once in a while a lemon, but after the experience with BMW customer service never again anything with a blue and white propeller badge!

Remember having engine corrosion, final drive failure, EWS antenna ring failure on a 1200 GS Adv when still under warranty. They wouldn’t cover the engine casing corrosion under warranty, which annoyed me at the time.

My Honda is the first of the new Hornets, I ordered it before any were in the country, in fact I had a 5 month wait for it and it's been perfect 🤗
I bought the Duke because it was lightweight and a 390cc but normally I would only buy Japanese
never buy the first of anything".

bobnick , you got a shoe fetish mate, I’ve literally got one pair black, one pair brown, pair of old flip flops and that’s it 😁🥳

Don’t say that - I am just considering buying a second hand one of these 🤪

I guess it’s a last ditch effort to safe the company by current owners? If that fails, who knows what happens to the brand? Did the purchase of those other motorcycle brands actually bring much to the party? I’ve no clue but it’s a shame really, my KTM dealer was one of the good ones, what happens there long term? And the new 2025 390 Adventure R was actually looking interesting, up until this shenanigans anyway...

KTM 5,000 employees far to many.+ MOTO GP . SBK. and all the other races got a bit carried away .
Surprised Ducati aren't feeling it

One of the guys on the Ducati forum went back to Ducati after his 4 week old BMW engine disintegrated ….. , these days Ducati’s are very well screwed together, awesome bikes😇

My 750ss, admittedly an older bike, loved to turn “furry” at the slightest hint of moisture 🙄

Never had electric problems but I went out of my way to protect them in various ways 😊

Been a long time since I had my 999, wonder how much they extort charge for a full Desmo service these days?

A ridiculous amount 😳

Anyone that is a bit handy with the spanner’s could do it.
It really isn’t that tricky and access is pretty good as well 👍

KTM just announced voluntary Administration ,, they now have 90 days to get banks , regulators and creditors onside,, But Pierer group is about to announce massive losses in region of 480m euros on KTM alone , so Pierer also in trouble and KTMs finaces are linked .

It was announced that KTMs parent group Pierer mobility has also declared bankruptcy yesterday ,, looks like KTM will be liquidated and the brand will die as its so toxic now ,, Costs of fixing LC* engine fiasco and well as very poor handling of the situation along with total collapse of sales have done for them, Pierer is also in a total financial muddle , investers , banks, auditors and regulators are tearing into the firm ,,,

This is already out of date DanJ as Pierers auditors and bankers have said they are in the red for 2.8 Billion euros late yesterday afternoon , far worse than the 800m euros Pierer AG were touting ,when they declared administration last week for KTM restructuring , I cant find the links i was looking at this morning but i think monday there will be more news , it has also been admitted that unsold KTM bikes in storage or dealers total over 100,000 and that there are at least 38,000 customers bikes with cam problems and that dealers are dumping unsold bikes back on KTM and dropping franchises in order to avoid carrying the can for repairs they cant do and also all Pierer group suppliers are now demanding cash up front.

Never wanted one before now, certainly don't want now.

Only way I'd have one is with a lifetime warranty. Nice bikes, lightweight, nice looking, fun, cool. But chocolate engines make them worthless, I really think that's what has sunk them, they probably thought they were too big to sink 🤔

They have a cult following. Hooligan machines in the main.😊
Personally I think the headlight arrangements are pig ugly.🤢

Those numbers are staggering...head in the sand with the cam issues for starters...they' ve gone from being a small nice firm to a huge global brand in far too quick a time. They're stuffed...I suspect.

I was interested in a 2025 390 Adventure R, but wouldn’t touch one now unless there’s a substantial (and credible) rescue package. Which engines outside the 790/890 parallel twin would you say are chocolate? I’ve had several LC8 v-twin KTM bikes (used daily for commuting), none of those had the consistency of a cacao based confectionery item. ;)
