Setting off end of Sept for a trip down the Mosel,
Had a look on SFS app for places to stay and to be honest I wasn't that impressed with a few of the reviews of sites on the river.
Any recommends??

Cheers

Hopefully you will be there for the various wine festivals . Some stopping places here
Do visit Berg Elz.
Oh, and technically you will be going up the Mosel to Metz.
Have a good one.

forget the reviews.. as they say you can't please all of the people all of the time..
for example.. Honfleur aire get slated by some.. others , myself included, love it

besides, there are dozens of sites and stelplatz to choose from.. you don't like, just move on

btw.. it's upriver from Koblenz to Trier ..

Give it a go. We found the stellplatzs crowded and it was all a bit manicured, but that's Germany for you. I think until you've done it you won't know what you're missing or know what you want to miss in future. :) It will be an experience, it won't be unpleasant and you may love it, plenty do. :)

You'll love it. So many of the towns and villages are chocolate box pretty, you'll take loads of photos. Stellplatz and campsites everywhere, End of Sep you'll be able to stop anywhere you like. The wines and wine tours are excellent. Brilliant cycling with plenty of flat river rides, with steep stuff just moments away. The only disappointment for us as ever with Germany is the food. Even the best German restaurants in tourist areas have menus that remind you of a 1970's Wimpy, complete with awful photos of the burger, the Sausage and schnitzel. which is about as comprehensive as it gets. I love a currywurst but we always leave Germany craving vegetables. Early September is great time to be doing the Mosel, the end should be OK but the Mosel is better with sun (y)

In early September look out for Pfifferlingen on the menu - Chanterelles to you and me - delicious and as close to a vegetable as you’ll get in Germany!

We will be coming from south from Valence/Lyon/Dijon heading north, don't know if thats up or down the river.
So where should i head for to "do", drive along and stop on the Moselle.
Please

The Moselle/Mosel is a tributary of the Rhine which it joins at Koblenz. It flows very roughly south to north. Trier is a popular place to start a trip down the river. There's a huge aire there I seem to recall. :)

You could also join it in France at Metz or Nancy. The source is a little north west of Mulhouse.

If your route into Switzerland can involve the Sustenpass I can't recommend it enough. It is spectacular.

We stayed in Koblenz at the Knaus Camp site right at the meeting of the Rhine and Mosel. Great but busy site right next to the old town of Koblenz , easy walk or short ferry trip across to old town. Take the cable car up to the fort on the hill opposite and visit the Deutsches Eck monument opposite the site and stand right at the point of the river meetings. Lovely places to eat in town or along the rivers.

We are today sitting on the banks of the Moselle at Zell (Mosel) some 4 meters from the actual river a glass of wine in hand watching all kinds of boats going up and down. The sun is out and we have just come back from another wine fest in the old town. Spent 4 hrs there watching all kinds of medieval activities etc This is our third wine fest on this journey and our plan is to catch as many as we can going up the river. What could be better for two retired old hasbeens !!

I have looked at a couple of You Tube Vids of the Sustenpass.
I saw 2 or 3 PVCs and one Yellow bus.
Would you say the Susten can be done in a 8mt MH towing a car on a trailer?
I planning. If no then no issue we will do in the car from Jungfrau, it;s only 80Ks away.

We stayed there a couple of years ago and totally agree with you. Unfortunately when were there the town had a late night concert going on that side of the river and there was an open air cinema in the field next to the site. When we asked if we could move to the far end of the site to for a bit of peace and quiet, we were refused but only to find that all the German families around us that wanted to move were offered alternative plots. We rated their customer service very low!

We were there during a German public holiday , had one of the best pitches on a big corner pitch with a view onto the river , site was chokka bloc , probably pi$$ed off the Germans 😉

Can anyone recommend any Stellplatz with good public transport links into Koblenz? The Knaus one looks great but it'll work out at 60 euros a night for us, which is a bit steep, unless anyone can convince me it's worth it!

Sorry for the late reply. TBH I'm not sure about the trailer but if you have the power to get around the hairpin bends, which can be steep on the inside you will be fine.

Urmitz just round the corner on the Rhine, great stop i use it all the time and train station five minutes walk from stelpatz with regular trains to Koblenz
and a massive retail park down the road.

This is looking more like it, my eyes watered when I saw the price of Knaus! Do you know if you can buy train tickets at the station or do they have to be bought in advance? Thanks :)
