Has anybody got a good idea what to do when the keys have been locked in the garage. That is all the keys, to start engine to operate the doors etc. Know it is my fault, am stuck in Salamance in Spain, and tomorrow Monday will try to contact whoever is available. Staying at Hotel Regio camp site, and reception has a handy man, who will come in tomorrow, also they gave me an address for a Hymer dealer. Can anybody lighten my soul please.

It’s a shame you are too far away from Northernraider and Jackie, they are in Murcia and did similar today
“Managed to lock myself out the van this morning 🤦‍♂️ had to send Jackie through the smallest hatch on the van( that I fortunately hadnt locked )

If its a hymer and you can get on the roof , remove the 4 starred washers that hold the large skylight dome on and drop down through that.

I've had to do that twice in the past. But it's the best way to get in without doing any damage. You can then refitt the dome

I know this does not help the OP, but can anyone explain how one can lock the keys in the garage without doing it with a key. Are some garage doors slam-shut? Ours needs a key.

If slam-shut, do converters not know about Murphy's Law.

With Hymer locks you can unlock & leave them unlocked or unlock and after swiveling the catch you can lock them so you can push the lock in and it locks without a key.

You certainly can with these Zadi locks, turn key to open, lock pops out to turn, open locker,if you then turn the key and remove it will then lock when pushed back in,and no it wasn't me who did it 😀

Is it possible to unscrew the bed base from inside?
Do you have a record of the hab key number it probably begins with FW then 3 digits if so you should be able o get a replacement.
Knowing how Hymer garage doors lock the only way I can think of from getting in from outside would be to muller the lock.

When I got locked out of my auto trail I was able to drill a very tiny hole at the top of the door sliding plastic window and open it
by pushing the window catch with a thin nail.

OK I thought he had said it was the keys for everything and assumed he couldn't get in the van . Is the garage inaccessible from the van then? I've always been able to access garage areas from inside the van

Only if you can remove the bed base from inside.

Thanks for your ideas, but very unexpectedly I managed to split the bed and without breaking too much I could get a magnetic telescope down in the garage and fish up the keys. Happy holidays!!

Yes same as us Geoff that’s old school technology we have, didn’t you know things have improved and got much better🤣😄

We could get locked in the garage with the keys if one of us climbed in and the other locked the door from the outside. What if the person outside who has locked you in threw the keys away? worth thinking about.
How would you get out?

When you rebuild it maybe an emergency hatch.

I've done it as well, 'er indoors handbag with her keys was in the van and I locked the hab door then locked my keys in the garage. And I still shut the garage door like that.
We were at' er indoors bothers so slept on the sofa and got daughter to go to our house for the 3rd hab key and post it to us.

That’s good, best get a lanyard to fit on your belt for your keys

I have forced a few garage doors for people who have locked keys in garage. Big screwdriver and slowly forced door near lock. The locking mechanism inside the door bends as the door is forced. Once the door forced, I have then straightened the mechanism on each of the two locks and the door was useable again. Not all locks are the same.

I see you have a Hymer so you know what the lock is like. I don't think your method would work on a Hymer.

I locked my keys in the garage (Hymer) the day before expensive tickets to the Goodwood Festival of Speed - 200 miles from home. Visions of my wife driving from home to bring the spare keys! Fortunately she managed to get them delivered to the campsite by Royal Mail special delivery and they were there next morning before 9:00am.

There are probably other courier options which might have been possible from abroad. I once had a motorcycle exhaust replaced under warranty where it set off from Italy mid-afternoon and arrived mid-morning the next day.

Now always carry a spare hab key in the van - won't do that again.

My garage door has a ring you pull to open from the inside.

This just reminds us all how important it is to have a spare key secreted some place outside the van, ours is so well secreted that when I wanted it yesterday it took me 10 minutes to find, our garage and habitation doors have emergency release from both inside and out but they are touchpad/button operated doors so don't normally carry keys at all.

clearly you lot haven't lived life like me.

When I locked myself out of my Rapido a few years back, I borrowed a screwdriver and was in within about 30 seconds. No damage done, just pure and simple lock picking. A motorhome is the most easy of vehicles to break in to.

One could always hide a key somewhere on the outside? maybe a keylock with a combination on it, drilled in to the floor and holding a spare key... not any use now, but I bet you are on the internet ordering one very soon.
