Keeping your car battery charged when you are away for several weeks.

Our car is 10 years old still on the original battery always starts first turn after 6 - 7 weeks away.
good these kia,s mine is 2014 and still on the original battery

I just let my next door neighbour borrow it whilst we are away,,,He borrows it once a fortnight when we are at home for his big shop..BUSBY.

I suspect you have a slowly deteriorating battery, my bikes and the car would all start after six weeks, in fact the car started after ten weeks last winter. As others have said the easiest solution is to disconnect the battery.

Have a look at www.optimate.co.uk who have chargers designed to be left on indefinitely , I have used their Optimate 2 model for many years to maintain my motorcycle batteries. (they also reset to charging after a power cut which some other makes do not)
I have an Optimate 4, once the battery is fully charged, it cycles the following, it stops charging for 30 minutes during which it assess current drain and then commences charging for 30 minutes, either with a float voltage or if necessary an absorption voltage. It is designed for motorcycles or maintenance on batteries upto 50ah, however it worked fine on my 95ah MPV battery.

We left ours for 7 months and just take the negative off. Bob

Just disconnect battery. I left mine for 3 years while we worked away in Hong Kong. A little charge when we came home and it's been fine for 2 years since. The battery is 12 years old!
