Hi. I have just booked an afternoon parking slot in Mid December at Sainsbury's Beeston (near Nottingham) using JustPark. Payment has been taken and my booking has been confirmed by JustPark. I wanted to double check that our 6 m campervan would be ok with Sainsbury's and so I have completed the online form for JustPark, which is the only way of contacting them and can only be used after a booking has been made. While waiting (op to 24 hours) for a reply, I have also just called the Sainsbury's Beeston store itself to check and they have said that they have nothing to do with JustPark and they do not hire out their parking spaces. Someone else (EuroParks?) is contracted to look after their car parks. Checking the Justpark website again I see that they list Sainsbury's stores all over the country. What is going on? Has anyone successfully parked at a Sainsbury's using JustPark? We don't want to stay overnight, but we do need at least 4 hours so we can't just park as a 'normal' customer. Thanks.

I don't get this I've never seen a supermarket where you have to pay to park.

And I really don't get this one, French Supermarkets welcome Motorhomes with open arms, lots of them even have Bourns.

There are quite few. Often they will refund you when you go and buy stuff in the shop. They will generally be in places where the car park is popular due to its location. Tesco in Inverness is an example. It's right in the town centre and near the train station. I imagine they get a lot of non Tesco customers parking there so it makes sense.

I’m thinking of renting out my drive to Sainsbury’s delivery vans when my shopping gets delivered.

££££££££ss

If a supermarket charges for parking it will usually refund you when you buy something there.

I parked in one and went in and bought a bar a chocolate to get my free 2 hours parking. Our local cinema do the same - pay for parking and the refund you when you present your parking ticket inside. It's because its a large public car park serving a shopping centre, bowling, skiing etc.

However, you can rent your drive out via companies like 'park on my drive'. I've used peoples drive many times when going to London. You need to live somewhere where people want to visit though!!

Probably pretty cheap compared to the football tickets what's the going rate these days I've not been for years
I only follow League 1 football (travelling that is, do follow others through TV) so its still quite cheap, my season ticket at Peterborough was around £350 (old farts rate, about £480 for my son) and away game tickets are in the range £24 to £29 with £5 off for those with not long to live. The next two Just Park slots I have booked are £4.04 and £5.24 which I don't mind as diesel is biggest cost for an away game followed by ticket and then parking.

Something no one has mentioned yet, how does this sit for insurance?

For a short period it's no different to any other parking. If it's left overnight many insurance policies say it needs to be at it's home address unless you are sleeping in it. Some policies have a limited time. Mine is 48 hours unattended if not parked at home on my drive

We have used Justpark twice to park at Holiday Inn , Washington - a useful overnight staging post easy access just off the A.1 in jaunts to and from Scotland. We parked on unmarked hard ground away (used by coaches) avoiding marked out area for clients (i.e door slammers/ alarm setters!) and no apparent check in/out ...perhaps ANPR cameras inside?
Quiet, relaxing overnight sleeps...and nearby a Sainsbury filling station with most competitive prices in region. Cost @ £5 each night.
Now looking to do same overnight at Sainsbury Folkestone in readiness for early morning Chunnel shuttle booking.

For anyone interested in the result of this saga, JustPark got a fiver off me for nothing. They couldn’t tell me if I could park a 6 m campervan in the car park at Sainsbury’s Beeston. There was nobody to ask on arrival. Checking around the car park there was clearly no space big enough. Too busy to even think about parking on two adjacent spaces. Frustrating, but fortunately it turned there is a very cheap and spacious long stay Council car park next door. £2 for all day, although on a Saturday there is no charge after noon. Just to cap things off, another van gave me his ticket as he left which still had an hour to run. This covered me to noon and then nothing to pay.

That sort of confirms what I originally posted, they have no control over the real time parking arrangements so cannot guarantee anything (other than taking your cash!)

In our town coop give one hour free, but absolutely no use of car park when the shop is closed (£90 fine), Waitrose will refund up to 1h if you spend over £10 and Lidl is free, but you have to scan a barcode on your till receipt and input your car reg after which you have 10minutes to leave, again no parking allowed out of shop hours (£90 fine, camera controlled).

As Lenny said French supermarkets especially Carrefour welcome Mobys actively even putting services in place at some. Maybe UK supermarkets will follow suit in a structured way in due course when they work out that we would likely spend money on breakfast where available and buy fresh provisions? UK aires have been mooted, not holding my breath for that but nationwide supermarket parking would do for now!

I've done the same through YourParkingSpace at a Sainsburys in Tunbridge Wells, Kent - but for a car, not a motorhome.

Aren't the parking fines all done by cameras timing you in and out, these days? The days of people patrolling the carparks have gone? Therefore you can take up two spaces without a problem? So as long as you have paid a company with a link to the people operating the cameras, it should all work out.
In theory 🤣

Too late for the OP but you could use Google maps satellite view to see the layout of the car park before you book.

I've used Just Park for my car at supermarkets when going to a match and not had a problem. Good service, would recommend (for cars!).

have these JustPark people noticed Campervanners overnighting in the odd Supermarket car park and thought we can make some money out of this, I wonder?
I overnighted in a Morrisons, I'd had bought a few items and when I was in I asked one of the shelf stackers if it would be ok, he said I haven't heard you, but as far as I'm concerned I'd just turn a blind eye, he also said the barriers come down 1/2 an hour after closing and open again in the morning when the store opens but I wasn't bothered about that, there were some boy racers later on outside where the barriers were down so that was a good thing!

Take care! My local Sainsbury’s car park is run by a private contractor. They photograph your number on the way in and you need to put in your reg when you buy your ticket. If the number put in does not match their photo, you get a fine. I was done as the machine only printed part of the number. It cost me £60 - even though I had paid for parking. If you challenge it cost you £20 even if you win!

This is the organisation that I mentioned much earlier in the thread. If you try to book on their website you can see the size of the space available, for example my local Sainsbury, like many others, is limited to a large car like a 4x4. I have found others on the system that are larger, eg described as the size of a transit van, so presumably a MH up to 6m would be OK. I haven't yet spotted anything larger.
