Just planning six weeks in France - What are your must see places

We lived in South Burgundy for 16 years. An area usually just passed through en route to the South of France. The area between Dijon and Lyon has many lovely villages and vineyards.

Puy du Fou? including Cinescenie. Advance booking almost essential and there is a very large aire about ten minute walk away.
If doing Normandy, the D-Day museum. Several Aires including in Arromarches.
Oradour-sur-Glane but be prepared to be emotionally moved.
Monet's garden

We have done 5-6 week trips to France on I think 5 occasions and there is just so much to see and do.

We normally plot places that have taken our interest on a map and then try to rough out some sort of route.
Travelling April/May so probably headed south first of all, depending upon weather.

What are your 'must see' places for plotting on our map?
Hope you don’t break down! French and there mechanics are rude and useless

That reads like a bad experience. I also had a poor one, but similarly have had very poor experiences with so called mechanics over here, and indeed in the USA as well as in Malta. Clearly the language adds an additional difficulty but I don't think it's unique to the French.
