Still getting used to where you post what and where (I'm 69 and dont do Facebook or anything, so quite a newbie). However, what a great site, I've never had such a quick, positive and friendly response, to my motorhome dilemmas until I joined this site, thanks everyone, what a great bunch, I love it.

Since joining this site a few years ago, I have picked up many a useful tip I don't think I would have come across any other way. Thank you to all those contributors.

Joined this group to learn as much as I can before hubby and I retire and move to full time living in an A Class MH. Hoping the move will be early in the new year, fingers crossed our house sale actually goes through this time! House buying time wasters have put things back a couple of months, 🤬

New MH, Carthago Liner for Two, only has space for two 160w solar panels, comes with 1800 inverter fitted as standard. My question is what electricalS can I use?
i.e, Hairdryer, cooking equipment etc…. I opted out of having a gas oven fitted as never rated them in any of ou caravans over the years.
So having no oven I will be considering alternatives, can I run for instance things like a Ninja Foodie or Insta pot. I don’t really want too many appliances but want something that will get used daily and be in addition to hob cooking. I do have a Morphy Richards 3.5L Sear & Stew slow cooker which I love and use all the time, especially in colder months it has an aluminium inner pot and is only 163w and weighs just 2kilos.
weight is something I’m very well aware of!

Any advice on what you all use and why, and if it can run on the solar set up we have would be invaluable as we want to be off grid as much as possible and know we will need to work around our inclement weather whilst in the Uk. End of next year not such a problem as will be be chasing the sun around Europe as much as this crazy world will allow!

My grateful thanks to you all, in advance, for your valued feed back.

Stay safe and happy travels! Jx 🚍
Hi,
Have a read through this thread to start to learn about solar, batteries and inverters. There are a lot of threads on here about the subject if you use the search function.
So much will depend on your battery capacity, what sort of batteries
you have and where you will be travelling for solar topping up. Your slow cooker has a low power requirement but will presumably be switched on for many hours?
You will live in it and find out though.

I don't know if lithium is standard on new Carthago's now but I would suggest fitting 2-300AH of lithium. I've got 3x 100W panels in series plus 2 x 120AH lithiums. I run a toaster, kettle, microwave( all low wattage models) + OH's hair dryer through a 1500W inverter. Not sure how well any 12v setup will cope with heavy overcast winter days in the UK though. It would depend how often you were on hookup/ moving around and charging from the engine. If full-timing you certainly want to go for refillable gas.

I joined nearly two years ago (5th Nov) and have picked so many tips and had my confidence boosted on buying, owning, maintaining, and using our (new to us in October 2020) Motorhome that Motorhome Fun has to rate as one of the best resources on the internet, if not of all time for me.

Everyone is welcoming, funny, always willing to help and share knowledge and experiences.

:thanks3:
