Just Gassing ?

They would probably leave half of what they nicked from the others in sympathetic of your apparent poverty.:LOL:
I wasn't joking though, we have a credit card between us, which apparently they didn't pinch other than that we each have an old Moto phone that are right by the bed and completely nothing else on the list, no TV, jewelry, watches, cameras, bikes, iPads, satnavs, and maybe we have about twenty euros in cash , that's it honestly.
Would they trash the place thinking there must be something somewhere or threaten us with violence or what? Thinking a bit further though they couldn't threaten us if we were gassed. 👍 ;)

It seems I may have upset somebody (Papa John, perhaps) by using the colloquialism "Me ol' Wazzok", and I have been advised to apologise.

This term, when used in the context in which I applied it, is more of an endearment than an insult.

So, if anybody has been upset by the use of such regional, dialectical, language, I most humbly apologise.

Mean to say, I've only been here a week or so, and I'm in the brown stuff already !
Are you sure it was for using the term 'Me ol' Wazzok' That's a term of endearment, can't see anyone on this site being sensitive enough to get upset about that

The gassings don't happen, but what do insurers do when people claim to have been gassed? ("We have reports from 5 other vans who were gassed on the same night; we weren't in any way negligent...") Does this make it easier to make a claim stick? If so, claims of gassings may exist mainly for insurance purposes.

Do you know I have been thinking along those lines, apart from the 1 UK van apparently they were all Dutch were they all working to the same story, did they all know each other?

I think that the OP has highlighted that being on a site isn't necessarily any safer than just parking up......
This has shown it's possible to be burgled on a big site. A single data point. This may be common, or a hundred year event. So it doesn't really tell us much other than it's possible.

You've also got to consider the potential severity when it does happen. If the burglars are discovered on a dense site, they are far more likely to run away. But a solitary park up has no like minded campers to witness or come to the rescue. So could it turn out worse?

I did at one point have one of those mini cameras with a mini SD card and wifi in the van. Mainly for when we were out and about on bikes.

I might consider getting another
What so they have more goodies to nick

This is getting silly now !

I thought that the Spanish Inquisition might knock it on the head.

Who is Jim, . . . . . . . just curious ?

A question for 'Doubting Thomases'

If one burglar can burgle one vehicle in 2 minutes, how many vehicles can ten burglars burgle in the same time frame ?

Somebody may well have had their Rolex nicked, but I didn't ask the police to see a list of stolen items, so we shall never know.

There were CCTV cameras, but only adjacent to the office. It was, and maybe still is, possible to exit the site without passing the office. Very silly really. I am reliably informed that there are now a few more CCTV cameras dotted about. The site being in trees, and with high hedges around a large percentage of the pitches, does not help. There is also access from a public riverside walk that passes the site.

As an aside, this site was recommended to me by a fellow motor-homer, and when I informed him of this happening he was most discumnockerated. He was so upset that he put in a report, as did I, to the ACSI website where fellow travellers can pass comment upon issues and situations at any site in the ACSI network. The reports were initially promulgated on the ACSI site, but strangely they both disappeared some short time later. These reviews are meant to be sacrosanct, but it would seem that such reports as my friend and I submitted, were somehow, an exception to their rules.

I have included some photos of the site taken at an earlier time, about 2016 I think ?

Can we now consider this thread terminated?

The decision is that BURGLARY BY GASSING IS IMPOSSIBLE !

"An ipad, a Rolex, and €2,000" is forum shorthand for a fictitious insurance claim after being gassed on a French motorway Aire.

Don't worry, you'll get the hang of this place.

Our chief attraction is humour, and also technical advice. No, hold on, our two main attractions are humour, technical advice, and p***taking.

Among our main attractions are.....

I have actually had three incidences of theft all many years ago in over 50+ years of Motorhoming and all three were on an official campsite.
I rarely ever stay on sites and never feel unsafe taking the obvious care in my parkup.

Looks like this time they took everything except the 2000 euros and the Rolex.

It's all bollox, what burglar in his right mind would risk robbing numerous vans one after another and hope nobody at all would wake.

One van maybe, but one after the other!

Utter rubbish.

Cursing and calling another member's post rubbish is just not nice. You've been here long enough to know that's no way to say you find something hard to believe, John.

Meanwhile, I remember a night at a top London Hotel when over 50 of 120 rooms were robbed/ransacked while guests slept.

A-hah !

I begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

For this uninitiated ignoramus, please define "Ooops Thread".

(Like a dog with a bone, eh what ?)
I'm guessing it might mean "oops I wish I hadn't started this thread". :)

I wouldn't worry about it and if it helps I was robbed in a tent near Séville on a campsite and the thief raided several cars finding wallets and other valuables in the same night. The upside was this was 50 years ago and I've never seen anything similar. Theft does go on (I had a 10 year-old nick my dark glasses in Jordan) but that was entirely my fault.

I think accounts like yours help everyone to realise a few simple precautions can minimise the risks, rare though theft is outside a few city hot-spots.

That makes sense, and there is more than a grain of truth in the statement.

Meanwhile, I wonder if there is a record for the longest thread in the entire forum.

I suppose somebody will know ?
