We are planning to be near Normandy around the d-day anniversary. I Realise it will probably be on a smaller scale than previously but can anyone suggest campsites or locations that give the chance to appreciate whatever is going on?
Presume the Aires will be full on a first grab basis.

There’s a Camping Municipal at Asnelles just along the coast from Arromanches-Les-Bains that we stayed at in the summer of ‘23. It’s not too far a walk (or even cycle) along the flat sandy beach to the main D-Day attractions and the beached remnants of the Mulberry Harbour elements from there.

There is an aire @ 11 euros a day in the centre of Arromanche and one on the top of the cliffs next to the 360 degree cinema. Both should have availability if you get there around the 4th June. We will be there as usual. Also there will be lots of events marking the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII.

We stayed at Camping Chateau Martragny https://www.chateau-martragny.com/?lang=en

We found it a lovely site for a group of us in vans and tents
A lovely choice of sites and a pool all spread out with restaurant and bar
All low key

But the icing on the cake was there were quite a few English Dutch Belgium DDay organisations camped up on the drive full of knowledgable enthusiasts!
It’s well placed to visit many DDay sites.
With the campers of our group we had a car so didn’t use the motorhome out and about
There are also rentals in the chateau itself
I’m not a campsite person but this is one I’d very happily use again

Ditto above, stayed there in 2014 for the 70th Anniversary in my 2089 VW California and electric bike, supplied us with special passes for the ceremony. 👍
