Jump Start

Hi all, a "thinking outside of the box " question, has anybody hooked an inverter up to one? A mobile 240v ac might be useful addition to the on board kit.
Mike

great bit of kit use ours all time at work paid for itself today alone on jumpstarts after xmas break lots of flat batterys .tried it on inverter it didnt work .good torch and can charge phones etc . keep one in motorhome just in case . yes its been tried many many times on vans with same engine .so pretty confident if ever reqd to start my van will be no problem

Many thanks, shame about that still a pretty useful bit of kit to have around the MH., even more so if off grid.

Ordered one of these useful gizmos today.
Had to drive this morning to get a 'click & collect' food order and the car didn't have enough power to move it. It’s a hybrid Lexus and its always been fine when left for 5-6 weeks while we go on trips but this time, after three weeks sitting in a cold garage, it wouldn’t start. The traction battery was fine but it seems there is an auxiliary battery somewhere that powers all the lights and electric and must start the petrol engine.
I dug out my ancient Halfords battery charger and hooked it up for 40 minutes and away she went.
From tomorrow I will be able to jump start if it happens again..........Sod’s law says I will never need to use it.
Thanks for the heads up and details Zepp. :xThumb:

Richard.

Great to have , if off grid and mls from anywhere in isolation !

Mine seems to hold it's charge for months on end.
Yes mine got used once during yr to get my car going , they can hold charge for a yr , checked it every couple of months seems good

I looked long and hard before buying mine. There are many reviews that are not supportive of these but they appear to be for the GB40 which has half the power of the 70. For a MH you definitely need the GB70 model. I charge mine off the phone charger using the USB lead - takes very few minutes to charge it up. Can also be charged off the cigarette lighter socket in the MH. Great piece of kit and provides piece of mind.

I was the same I thought the gb40 would be ok for cars but was not sure it would be any good for motorhomes that’s why I went for the gb70 I believe there is a bigger one out now .

Anyone used a gb40 for the motorhome it may save people some cash if it works ok ?

Has anyone used one of these (the GB70 is similar products) to run a 12v tyre inflator rather than connect it to the van battery? I've got the T-Max Air Compressor which I think is liked by many on the forum. I assume you could connect the battery clips of the GB70 to those on the compressor but wasn't sure if it would generate the amps or damage the battery?

There are several reviews on the GB40 that claim it does not have sufficient power for a MH - OK for smaller engine cars but not 2 litre plus diesels.

With regards to BCHOME post above I think that the power boost might be too strong to run a tyre compressor.

Hi..I dont have one of these devices yet but must admit to been tempted..
The instructions seem to indicate many are fitted with an outlet capable of say 15 amps which could be used for a portable compressor.. depending on its power requirement..
These devices do fall down in terms of amp hour capacity compared to the traditional battery type jump packs..
As long as it has the ability to pass a large current, its only required for a very short time so it's amp hour capacity doesn't have to be great...
It's likely running a compressor off it for a few minutes will deplete it far more than jump starting a few times..
Andy..

GB70 £160 from Halfords with a trade card (y)

We are the European Distributors for NoCo and I can confirm that for a Motorhome using a Ducato or similar engine you really need the GB70 to start from flat. The GB40 is best for smaller petrol engines.
One thing to note is that the booster is “intelligent” and senses the battery The boost mode is active when all the charge lights are flashing in sequence if the battery is dead or you want to use on an inflator (not tried an inverter but it should work) you need to hold down the “I” button for a couple of seconds to force start the boost mode. However there is a 12V out port which NoCo say is useful for Inverters Inflators Phone chargers etc.
Charging is reasonably fast on the usb connection but for those who use commercially there is a mains fast charge kit available that takes from flat to full in less than 10mins.
For those with very big engines or thinking down the inverter route there is the GB150 rated at 4000amps (cca I think) output available as well.
A really good well presented product that is very reliable and covered by strong warranty back up as are the chargers included a new version made to be mounted permanently in the engine bay to be connected when a vehicle is laid up for long periods ie M/H’s.

I too have the TrekPow TJ2500 and have used it. Fantastic piece of kit and at half the price of other devices which do the same thing. The You Tube video is well worth viewing.
Looks impressive but like lot of these products, there seems to limited UK supply - the Noco is available but the TrekPow and some others I've seen aren't.

Details and where from please, if possible
Thanks
Last year my battery had died at home so it was a traditional jump start from my car, getting it as close to the moho as possible, stretching the jump leads to near breaking then clambering thru the co-pilots door to start up.
So, I bought one, a 1000mah for 'Just in case'.
Still to use it though
