As I hope to become the proud owner of a Solex motorcycle at Shepton Mallet (the French bicycle with an engine which you lower onto the front wheel) and as I know loads of you will want a go on it, I thought I would start collecting names here and now...

£1 a go... all money to charity... make cheques out to the JJ Benevolent Fund...

Lynda has asked if it is left or right hand drive, she cannot cope with L/H so con her if you have to.

Pity you're not coming to Lincoln. You could have joined the Hole In the Wall Gang.

I'm sure you would do well as "Laughing" Sam Carey, Black Jack Ketchum, Elzy Lay or George "Flat Nose" Curry :Rofl1::Rofl1:

That could be interesting as its front wheel drive!

I think they are cool. I always wanted one of those little 3 wheeler Clouseau vans (Pink Panther) that you see bombing around Greece and the like.

That brings back memories of a late friend of mine who used to collect autocycles. The count shortly before he passed on was 632! Garages full of them, his house was over-run and in his kitchen sat 6 Corgis, until we built yet another garage!

We used to sell them a beaulieu, the Corgis' were popular, and I always remember a pair of his n' hers Scott Autocycles that were absolute beauties - and went together!

He had 14 velo solex in various forms, some with lights, some without (Older ones had round lights), BSA winged wheels, Raleigh's, 'The Green Machine'...famed for being the test bed for the Sinclair C5 propulsion set up. and a one off, from a company whom I will remember later - who went bust at the geneva motor show, this bike being the only one made and on the stand. He absolutely loved them!

There was even one which was a 'suitcase on wheels' - one made for the london commuter, which you would fold down and carry like a case!:thumb:

Not sure but I dont think I have met J.J.,,, I may be a wrong...

But I have a picture in my mind as to what he looks like especially as he belongs to the "Motorbike Fraternity" :Eeek:

Is he "Fat" (Beer Belly) and covered in "Tattoo`s" & got a long Beard and no hair and wear a leather Jacket with a huge "Eagle Emblem" on the back and written underneath "Live to Ride,
Ride to Live
Satans Hero`s.. :thumb:  :Rofl1:

Everyone knows rear wheel drive work better in the mud, front wheel drive just slide about - except if it is a mini.

Yes, they were the first 'small engined' motorcycles. Larger motorcycles as we know them were still 'fairly' new idea and thus quite out of the price-range of the working man.

Therefore, auto-cycles filled that gap. You could buy them ready made, or convert your bicycle with the BSA 'winged wheel' - a wheel with a small motor attached.

The grandparents of the powerbykes, and the moped, you could say! The way these work are so amazingly simple, it really is fantastic. Some are all but 'cobbled together' from parts you would expect to find in a shed - really fascinating!

Mmmmmm, anyone else notice JJ avoided the bike race question:Rofl1:

i did :Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1::Rofl1:

you know why though dont you,

 ............he knows lynn will win

i will add though that being the gentleman he is, even if he is winning on part of the leg he would let lynn cross the line first.

In my youth (16) I had an ARIEL SQUARE FOUR, I wrecked it trying to jump a five barred gate Ahhh! the madness of youth!

Now, in my seventieth year, saw the picture! I reckon I could handle that!

I want one! I want one! I want one! :thumb:

Well JJ,I got the Solex out of one of the lockups today, the tyres were flat as nobody has been near it for 3 years.
Pumped up the tyres, slight sidewall cracking but no problem.
It has petrol in thats at least 3 years old,two pedals and it burst into life, only thing thats not working is the back light, maybe a bulb.
I have a new spare tyre if you want it and I think it will run a bit faster with new petrol in it.
Even the big brass bell workes..ding dong.
I have also a Dutch Spartamet with motor in the rear wheel if anyone is interested.
As they say on evilbay CHECK OUT MY OTHER ITEMS.
Also Brenderup camping box trailer and Dutch Union gents sit up and beg touring bike.
