Javea Spain - Fires - Our House

The palms might recover but it is interesting to see all the little "stubs" from the old fronds have been burned off leaving a smooth trunk - if its the same tree in both pictures. :)

The only photo I had of before is quite old. Those trunks were smooth. Ill try and find another post fire photo

here is another of the palms.

I hope they recover, I think they are great.

You were very lucky that your house has been saved .
It will take a while for the scorched earth to recover and obviously affects animals and wild life. But so glad you are safe I expect it stinks of fire for a while. Good luck with the clear up.

Counting our blessings....our apartment was fine but were watching online from tea time on Sunday. Friends were evacuated and thought they would have lost their place but like you TeeMyob it has mainly been the garden. The aerial photos show just how much damage was done and how, with the incredible work of the emergency services, much was saved!
Bob's brother was in our apartment at the time and as it was pretty safe in the Arenal, especially the north end, he was just witness to the events rather than being involved. It must have been terrifying for so many.
Javea has pulled together, there are fundraisers for the bomberos and people who cannot return home immediately are being looked after. The Vuelta a España time trial went ahead, as much as anything to take peoples minds off of what happened for just a while. We hope to be back there in October sometime, though we have a few weeks rental available from September 26th and we are already taking bookings for 2017 (y)

Counterintuitively perhaps but forest fires actually helps nature & growth... though maybe not as we humans want.

Looks as if it was a close shave.
