enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
I sent off for my bus pass recently and now its arrived - i can be a bus wa$%£r now (The Inbetweeners .... )

does anyone actually use theirs, SWMS has refused to point blank to get on a bus with me .... she might change her tune in 3 years time though ......

At home we either walk or use our bus pass.
On our travels it's often more convenient to get around by bus and after all time isn't pressing.
Last June/July we spent 10 days on IOW and the van never left the site.
Got around by bus dead easy and most journeys were quick.

I’ve had a pass for just over a year, my wife got hers recently. We’ve just had a few days in the Lakes and used them every day. Brilliant way to get around if the services are good.

Use ours all the time, normally quicker to get the bus than take the car to Worthing or Brighton and obviously a lot cheaper. Buses run every 12min, during the day and 20 min in the evening. Can't use bus pass on the night bus as it's classed as a special service not that I want to be coming home at 4am.

Had mine a couple of years now.
Go to the pub on a Friday or Saturday in the car.
Get a lift home with the manager then get the bus next day to get my car.
Used to chuck the bike rack in the boot and go next day on the bike but I get more exercise walking to the bus stop.

When we stayed at haven in Filey in November we got the bus into Bridlington, the bus was fairly full and we were the only people paying. Mrs T got hers in December but hasn't used it yet, I'm not due mine till next year.

Use ours extensively and don't forget you can use them on the tram in Sheffield. Park for free at Meadowhell. Ikea or any of the P&R and then use your pass to get into the city.

Use it quite a bit when travelling. Stupidity is that it is not UK wide - will not work in Wales or Scotland unless the bus originates or ends in England.

Another downside to devolution!

Not legible for a pass as yet but for £1 each, each way we can on a Sunday travel from Lancaster to Keswick through beautiful scenery, makes a lovely day out. Only £3 each, each way rest of week.
I’ve been staying near Ashford and travelling some days to parents in Tenterden, £3 each way, cheaper than the car park and no fuel used.
Think on Friday night the driver was on a promise as I had to come down from the top deck as it was like being on a fairground ride.

If you knew how much it is to park in Bath and Bristol, let alone the bus lanes, clean air zones, quiet areas (blocked off streets), bus gates (trickery to get you going where you shouldn’t), all of which carry heavy fines, you’de know why we use our bus passes to go in either direction!

All you youngsters are the same 😉

Always use our pass as more convenient, stops parking charges and can have a pint and get bus home......... just depends on how soon we are all deemed as 'too rich' and it will be stopped !!!!

We use ours, sometimes have to change buses to get where we want to go, fine if it is not raining.
Great for meeting friends at 'spoons, going elsewhere to eat, and a scenic ride home (when you get on the wrong bus) 🤣

We use ours when out in the van, serves us well.

About as much use as a chocolate teapot at home the busses are so disjointed 🤔

No busses here but have used ours when away when in the van a lot.

I don't know how buses work...

JJ
Usually with an internal combustion engine JJ, but sometimes electric? The person at the front drives it while the rest go along for a ride. The operator publishes a timetable that really should have gone to a publisher as a work of fiction. Most people unless old an doddery with a bus pass have to pay a king's ransom to get on board. Occasionally you might get a seat, other than that it's standing room only. It's a civil offence to talk to another traveller unless you already know them.

Hope this helps your understanding my friend? (y)

I used buses often when I worked in Central London, but have rarely used them for decades. The last time I did was on the Cheddar valley road. Travelling in the near side seat next to the stone walls, I winced so much at the speed and closeness to the walls, it became embarrassing! Until I get my licence back, it's now a major option, but they seem infrequent, and require a different temperament. I'll have to adapt!

As I understand it, you can't use the pass in Scotland regardless of whether the journey finishes in England. So it's best to get a fare that takes you to the border and then get off and back on again saving at least a portion of the fare.

For me it is particularly convenient, our local bus stops on a 'hail and ride' basis on our road, so I only have to fall out of the front door and straight on the bus, it then stops at the gate to the University where I work! With some creative timing I can also get to Heathrow for free (need to take a packed lunch though, quite a journey!) Probably most useful around larger towns and cities with more comprehensive routes, less useful out in the sticks with irregular services.

I will be applying for mine shortly. Funnily enough the Post has just arrived telling me how much my pension will be. The first part month will be on 19th May and the first full Month will be on 16th June , Claire’s birthday. I can apply for my bus pass on 5th April. In Dorset you used to be able to apply 3 months early but I’ve just checked and I’ve got to wait until 1 month before. Oh the excitement!

Mind you Nick only ever uses his when we’re away in the van, they’re rubbish round our way. He used to use his a lot in London when 2 of the children were living there.

As a matter of interest, has anyone else noticed that when you use you pass, the ticket issued is always for the whole end to end route and not for where you get on? I assume that means the operator claims the maximum fare even if you only go one stop?

Still another 3 years before I get mine (get them at 60 in Scotland), my dad certainly gets the use out of his. A few years ago him and his mate did as much as possible of the NC 500 using their bus pass, he also uses it to visit other towns for a pint, he’ll jump on the bus to Glasgow have a few beers with his old mates then home again to Dumfries. Funny thing is he hardly uses it around town as he’s still fit enough to walk, hopefully I can still go for a pint at 84 never mind walk.

As for using the bus pass for cross border, stagecoach will allow it from Dumfries to Carlisle, however on way home you need to pay from Carlisle to Gretna. Not sure if this is how it’s supposed to work or them just being nice.
