Italy

Merano is worth visiting, stunning place, then over the reshenpass into Austria, visit Serfaus, Fiss, Ladis, it’s gorgeous😎

I know it’s not Italy, but lake Annecy near Switzerland is a beautiful lake to visit, we were on a site and about 15 mins bike ride into town

We stayed at Bella Italia at Peschiera del Garda. Big site with lots of facilities if you want them but the touring is all down by the lake side. We don’t tend to use the facilities on such sites but they are all there if you want them. Walk into Peschiera along the lake and also in opposite direction too. A nice bonus, if you don’t have a dog, is none allowed so no fouling or barking. Also no motorcycles allowed on site, they have to stay at entrance, so no loud noises

Cycle path almost all the way to Sirmioni and pretty safe cycling around the lake to Bardolino or inland along the river to Monzambano and beyond. Supermarkets close by as well as a large one on site.

Bus at gate to Verona. We found the location so good we stayed 5.5 weeks! ACSI too

Revisited it the following year for a much shorter time whilst touring.

I have been looking at Garda also as not been there since the late 1970s.
But the most direct route is via Austria 🇦🇹 , and the van is over 3500 kgs so reluctant to commit to a go box.
We’ve done it lots of times with no go box, not a problem at all 😊

Done Garda a few times and went early September. All of the sites on the eastern side were full . So we went over to the western side and stayed on Baia Verde site using ACSI. A great site with large pitches and an excellent pool area. What you have to remember is that the Italian schoolkids and the bavarian schoolkids both return to school around the 12th September. After that it eases off.

Visited the lakes on several occasions over the years with the last time being 2019 on a bike tour/pilgrimage to the Guzzi museum at Mandello on the Lario branch of Lago di Como, which is my favourite.

Local bar has a literal Guzzi ‘beer engine’!

What is it about Grimaud that you find so appealing?
We love that the campsite is between St Tropez and Ste Maxine - with markets and harbours/ marina, and lovely old towns to wander around. We usually alternate cycle rides to each town.

Port Grimaud is good for a visit, but probably only the once.

Camping Les Mures and Le Plage are big sites with their own stretch of beach. Le Plage is our favourite- the restaurant is lovely, right on the beach.

We love the atmosphere of St Tropez, especially now the big gin palaces have been replaced by yachts.

The site pitches are large, and the sun is usually shining!

We did a rd trip from Calais down to Venice this summer . Stayed in Colmar for a few days then interlaken for a week which was stunningly beautiful and definitely worth a visit .
