Will be travelling down staying at various stops on the way but would like somewhere to rest for a few days at any of the lakes but within walking distance of a village. Stayed at Manerba del garda about 3 years ago and wasnt impressed with that part of the lake although Salo" was really nice. Wasnt keen on Lake Como either but we only stayed briefly.
From there will be heading off to Jeselo coast on our way to Slovenia which is somewhere we have never been, so any hints there too please. Believe lake Bled is a must but very busy and booking essential.

Much further west but Lake Orta is fabulous. I found lake Bohinj in Slovenia not far from Bled was more appealing. Bled is lovely but Bohinj was quieter and very scenic.

The municipal camping at Lazise might suit you if it's open in April.
It's right next to the village which is quite nice with a similar vibe to Salo. It's also on the eastern side of the lake and not too far off the E70 autostrada.

Lake d'Orta is great and there are sites near the lovely village of Orta san Guilio. Alternatively, further east, Lake d'Iseo is super. We stayed at Camping Olivetti and you can walk into the (small) town of Iseo.

We have been to the Italian lakes many times, and find these smaller lakes much more delightful and 'personal'.

Hope this helps. (y)

There's also a gorge near Lake Bled (https://maps.app.goo.gl/4x895a3LtPSG8QCo8) that might be worth a look as well.

Haven't been to either but saw them both in a video while doing forward planning!
Vintgar: went last year, very good; fully organised... with buses from carparks. I'd recommend parking at the less popular northern end, as it is walkable from the end, unless you enjoy a steep 4 mile walk back to the start and await the shuttle bus.

+1 for Bohinj. Bled is Austria photogenically pretty, Bohinj is Canada wild. Also has boating and and a cablecar to high altitude walks or end of ski season. Try to get to the site early... It's the only one.
