It seems lots don't bother..

Sat abroad at the moment and we entertain ourselves with a brilliant android app "Vehicle Watch"....it instantly tells you the status of British vehicles... and to be honest its becoming more a case of finding van's which are legal as opposed to ones that aren't .. the amount we have seen not only on sites (back home in the UK too i should add) but also driving around which have been either Sorned for years, no MOT or Tax for years is jaw dropping... now some might argue "well that's up to them" .... but what if they hit you....what if that van you are cosily parked next to on a site burst in to flames.....what then..
Just had a look on the apple store there seems to be a few apps one called vehicle check some features are free some ore payable also HPI have an app there as well.

I suspect you may have invented a new spotting game 😎👍

Oooo Big Brother, sounds like a good name for a game show.:LOL::LOL:

yes i use it to as a tool for our own vehicles, as it reminds you when insurance, tax etc is due. never thought to use it to spy on other peoples vehicles... let me think about that... nah got better things to do with my time... personally think it is a little sad sitting there punching in reg numbers to see what comes up (n)
Other than insurance which the insurance co should remind you Dvla will remind you from their website of tax and mot

Must have windolene on bulk buy after all this window licking

Think you'll find all police forces have them now. And DVSA or whatever their latest name is!
ANPR on lots of Police vehicles😊

You won't get far in the UK unless 100% legal as most police cars have ANPR and the status check is instant alert for no tax insurance and MOT. Most motorways have them installed at key high traffic locations. There was a purge near to where i live last year and 5 cars and a van were clamped and covered with yellow stickers.

I watched a cop show a while ago - 'police interceptors' or similar.

Showed a police car heading for an incident in Derby through a heavily populated area getting ANPR alerts all the time - car didn't stop just carried on to the 'job'.

When caught little or nothing seems to be done - driving without insurance, MOT, tax or licence - a small fine, maybe points and in a lot of cases you are left feeling that the driver/owner is likely to do it again.

Yes they had a "job" to attend.

But that's the fault of the courts, the police can only put them in front of the courts.
The Police are more than pissed off at arresting the same cretins time and time again and officers on these programs have said that they are not getting the backup from the courts to deter the habitual law breakers.

It’s all on the UK Gov web pages without having to download an app

I follow NW motorway police on Facebook, and it's astounding how many motorists believe that they can get away without mot's, insurance and even a licence!

You don't know if they reported them later or if they had a trip down the same road, or another vehicle did, to 'catch' them afterwards ... if they had been daft enough to stop whilst on a 'job' they'd have got a rollicking and rightly so.

It just showed how many 'hits' on a short trip, didn't expect them to stop.

Regularly told that 1 million vehicles on the road not insured...

Maybe he was on his way to Foremark Reservoir or Calke Abbey.....:whistle2:

Some of those vehicles are parked on the farm storage I use.

It's heartbreaking to see them.... obviously been there for years, almost black due to the moss covering them. Obviously either dumped or maybe something happened to the owner.. If he/she was single probably nobody knows it is there. :(

I mentioned it to the farmer but he didn't seem bothered. It's sad.

The farmer does have an easy legal remedy unless he likes collecting mouldy abandoned vans. This is a website that enables downloads of the necessary forms with a small payment, but it is so simple that, if you can read the Act online, making a DIY Notice to send to the owner is no sweat.

We extended the date of our van's MOT by 6 months as permitted by the lockdown provisions. Between the date of the original due date for the MOT and the subsequent date, a search of DVLA showed the van as not having an MOT.
So it is likely (assuming this didn't just apply to our van) that some of the vans shown as having no MOT were lawful.
My car was showing extended date as it wasn’t an option for individual to extend. It was automatically applied

Thanks but don't think the farmer gives a monkey's uncle about anything but collecting our money. I'm not getting involved.. just worried owners may have died and relatives not know the vehicles are there.. but switching off from anything until this covid sorted. :)

I just had a look. Police officers saying goodnight on facebook with pictures of stretching cats or sound asleep teddy bears. It beggars belief.
So you didn't see these from the last few days then?

Guess the pictures of the cats etc just prove that they are human and have to switch off from the crap they have to put up with day to day!

I watched one of the police shows on tv where thepolice set up an anpr camera and the policeman actually said we cant do this too often as it would overload the courts

Does anybody know if the MOT holiday applies again in this lockdown please? Wife's car's MOT runs out the end of this month, but we are still self isolating until we get the injection, which I suspect will be later.

All insured drivers share the extra £400 million costs incurred by insured drivers. As a society, we also have greater risks from uninsured drivers being on the road with a greater number of accidents and untraceable hit and run events to deal with. Unfortunately, the fines don't seem to be much of a deterrent when the cost of insurance for some is so much higher.

Perhaps the Gov could offer tenders to private companies who can collect evidence of non-insured vehicles being on the road and arrange for courts to issue summons. The cost of which would be paid for by the drivers or owners of the vehicles. I know that there would be lots of complications ..... too many to be discussed here but in short, the benefits are likely to outweigh the disbenefits.

Just a slight word about those apps. Whilst generally they are good at providing information quickly rather than doing it the "official" way, they are not always up to date. A couple of times I have noted that the app I use, Car Tax Check, is showing one or other of my vehicles is untaxed/uninsured/MoT expired. Usually asking it to reset solves it but on occasion I have had to manually update the info. So, although I hate to spoil the OPs fun, the app is not always correct!

The only fully accurate app is the one on the police car that's just pulled you up!

You will need to get the car not done, all garages are open unlike last time.but if your self isolating you may not be needing your car.

That's not how the MOT extension works, it should have been updated online automatically, mine was. It alsoentuoned contacting them if it wasnt updated shortly before your mot expires.

Hate to burst your bubble but even the police vehicles aren't always up to date. My niece, who was fully insured, was stopped because the ANPR said she wasn't insured. Made to empty her car and make her own way home, car impounded. It turns out the insurance company hadn't got round to loading her details onto the national data base.

Yes, it's issues on the MID, motor insurance database that causes the problems, had a problem a while back on a traders policy when we had inputted the details in the afternoon for a vehicle, but it hadn't updated so we couldn't tax it as it was showing up as uninsured!

That's a bit harsh, couldn't they ring the insurance company. Or revert to yesteryear when we had 7 days to produce documents at the local police station.
