Isleof Mull

just come back. Great place no problems, free camping more difficult now, camp site at tobermory up a steep hill. We did not go from Oban, used the hop on ferries.

Calgary Bay is a must for wild camping. fantastic spot
But your not supposed to do it now, there used to be a damp site at the beach but as usual hire vans took the piss and upset the locals 👿👿

WEll . If you park at the cafe and you donate £10 to there charity of choice you can stay the night. There is a camp site at the other end of the bay but it's very tight to get through the gate. Very tight.

That’s fantastic news, when we called in Oct 2021 they didn’t want to know. The camp site isn’t big enough for anything but tents and VWbs 🤪

I recommend hiring a wildlife guide. They know the best spots for wildlife viewing and usually carry a scope for looking at distant sights such as White tailed Eagle nests. We saw multiple golden eagles, otters, divers and other sea birds and much else. Probably a bit early in the year for nesting sea birds, but a boat to Staffa and the Treshnish Isles is well worth it. I think it's better than the Farne Islands as there are no fences or buildings there. You have to be really careful that you don't step on the puffins.
Iona is magical and worth a full day. Although I didn't get round to it, Ben More is a Munro, and the views it gives over the island and the Western Highlands is spectacular.

Agree with Sid52 all his suggestions are a must!

Some of the locals aren't fans of motorhomes wild camping & will pip their horns at you whatever time of day or night it is. We've wild camped there a couple of times but haven't been back since the start of the pandemic. (We were there when the first lockdown began & had to get off the island quick & drive back to Lincoln.) We did stay on sites too but there aren't many so make sure you've booked before you go.
You can't book Fidden Farm, and it is a beautiful site (my profile picture is from there) that is a must to stay at, in my opinion - it's absolutely gorgeous. Just bear in mind it takes a while to get there! They've plenty of room and are never full, but at busy times you may not get one of the prime beach/water-front spots and may need to park inland a bit. There's not much in the way of shops at that end of the island - a tiny one in Fionnphort, a better one over the ferry on Iona - so stock up in advance.

You can't drive on Iona by the way, you can only go across as a foot passenger. Worth the trip.

Our latest vid is up and shows the camp site next to fidden farm I think ?

Fidden Farm now has a very good facilities block, complete with a campers kitchen room.
Definately a great place to stay.
There is a new stopover site complete with EHU just before the ferry over to Ulva.

I don't think there is one next to Fidden Farm, but I'm happy to be corrected! It has been about 4 years since I was last there.

Travelling from further up the island, just as you enter Fionnphort you turn left to get to Fidden Farm - up that road for a mile or so.

You are probably correct. You turn l ft past the community centre. We came back along the main (ish) a couple of miles and turned right down a long dead end rd. At a fork you could turn right to one camp site and left to where we stayed. Thought that might have been fidden farm. Looks like it's another site.

Mull is gorgeous, so much nicer than Skye. I want to be back there! And back to Harris & Lewis! It'll have to wait a few years :( but I doubt that it'll change much :giggle:

Better late than never to say thank you for everyone's advice, tips, and recommendations. We had a fantastic trip to Mull in May. Fell in love with Fidden Farm. Wild camped on the opposite side of the Loch to Kellan, watching sea eagles and Ospreys. Had a hairy drive down to the old post office but well worth it to spend 3 nights. A boat trip to Staffa is a must. We thought 3 or 4 days would be long enough but stayed 10 and we could have stayed a lot longer. Unfortunately saw no otters. So a good excuse to return in the future. Attached are a few photo's

We are considering a trip to Isle of Mull end of April. Our van is Adria Matrix 7.5m long + bikes. Has anyone any experience of a trip. Any advice would be much appreciated on things like wild camping (in a large outfit), Campsite recommendation, thinking 2 nights at Tobermory campsite also would our Adria be OK AT Fidden Farm. How long should we allocate to stay thinking 5 days is this long enough. We enjoy wild life nature and cycling and any recommendation of places to vist would be much appreciated
Many years since I visited the isle of Mull was well impressed , it's outline on the map appears look like a small infant , golden eagles were roosting there , quite mixed weather then , but even driving round the island in the rain was impressive, happy days of motor homes with isolation.😊🐕
