Isle of Wight - travelling around

Hello! I am sure this would have been covered but …. We are going over in September for a few nights and are just wondering if we are going to struggle to travel around the island - we have a Bolero 712 (7.5m x 2.3m).

I would consider myself a confident driver, and had no issue navigating Welsh lanes…!

The main reason the for question is we plan on being out every day and unsure whether to book a rental car or not!

Many thanks in advance
If you need to use a supermarket, Asda is the easiest to get a motorhome in to. (I live on the Island)

The driving in not a big problem, but parking is.
We have been twice, once with our car on the A Frame. so we parked the van on site and used our own car, and finding parking for that in the busy spots was a big enough problem.
Busses are definitely the best way to go, rather than use the Motorhome.
Enjoy your trip as it is a nice place to visit.

I found parking no problem in a 7.5m motorhome. the island is very MH friendly and at nearly all car parks there is a sign at the pay station which says, "All long vehicles must be parked in the coach park". Even in Ryde we had no problems, the sign is quite small but just look for it. This was last september, so not too many coaches.

We were there in July and parking for anything on the seafront areas was at a premium. So it seems either before school holidays or after is the best bet.
But to save worrying about the MoHo in busy car parks the bus or small car was best.

Hello
We're Islanders and own a 7.3 long moho.

Have no issues on the main roads, obviously avoid our narrow country lanes like you would any where else.
We have a good bus transport system, southern vectis, taxis are expensive so avoid.

Are you camping and caravan club members?
If so book ferry through Wightlink it's half price.

Some lovely campsites, weve just back from 3 nights at a certificated site Fakenham farm in St Helens, beautiful rural setting on a farm.
Electric hookup,18 quid a night all in throughout the year.
Adgestone club site just a mile away from us is very good, spent alot of the summer there, making the most of they're fab swimming pool

Got any more questions just ask us.

Have a fab time.xx

Kim and Ivan

And Lidl in Newport with additional parking for larger vehicles at the rear of shop.
Also Shanklin store pretty good too as doesn't get as busy.x

Been looking at Google maps for places to eat - anyone have any recommendations?

We love seafood so have a few of these places lined up.
" The Lifeboat" in East Cowes, overlooking the river Medina. The " Breeze" Island Harbour,on the road to Newport from East Cowes. The " Folly Inn" ,rough bumpy Rd !! jusr beyond Wippingham .The " Little Gloster"at Gurnard,North out or Newport (my favourite eatery ) The " Garlic Farm" ,good for breakfasts too. " Arreton Barn" excellent all round food & real ale ,plus craft centre.
Plenty of eateries in Cowes too.
The " Island Magazine " free on board the ferry has plenty of selections too.
Enjoy !! I'm there in September for ten days ,LOVE IT !!

I think the max speed limit is 30 mph so driving is easy around IOW.

Eating don’t miss Baywatch on the Beach at St Helens, Duver.
Nice little cafe, does Fish and Chips and other food. I think it closes at 7pm but you buy food and sit overlooking the beach at tables and chairs. It’s a fabulous site.
Park or get the bus to St Helens by the Green an walk down the lane to the beach.

We could t fit in the car park when we dropped by… it was busy and we were too big to just stop on the side…. Was the only place we failed to get in to on the island though - most places are geared up for coaches so we were fine.

Food wasn’t as good as mainland, we found the two best places to be in Bembridge and Yarmouth. The rest was ok.

Steam train was amazing - like a time warp.

I'm on Waverley Park for ten days again. My usual relax & chill out zone !! Visiting all my favourite haunts,( except "The Breeze ) ,not good reports of late !! Weather's been good so far, some heavy rain Friday night which is good. Some good live music around the Island .Watched my old mate " John Wroath"singer/guitarist/entertainer at the 'Falcon' in Shanklin last night , good evening.
Sunday lunch today probably at " Dairymans Daughter" at Arreton barnsor maybe the "Lifeboat" Britannia Rd East Cowes .

As previous we always use the bus service to get around, next year we will be taking our labrador so will see how that works on the bus ... pretty sure there is an app now where you can buy a 7 day ticket.
