Isle of Man

We're currently staying at Castletown football ground, Stadium bend on the Billown circuit.
Pre TT classic meeting starts today.
Good facilities, showers, food, bar and free laundry facility. (We've been across for a few weeks)
Most importantly the weather is fantastic.

Cracking the flags in the paddock which is filling up nicely (even some superstars here already) might have seen a cloud earlier though

Hi.
Watched the start of a new series " Maryland " last night, got to say it looks very nice over there, with the TT on top.... Magic. have a good time.
Tea Bag
Its looks good.....filmed in Ireland though

Excellent- staying on Peel campsite and really looking forwards to it 👍
Don't bother with the modern pub on the housing estate a few hundred yards out of town from the campsite, it's rubbish. The Millers T'ale micropub in town does good beer, worth the walk down the hill and back.

For anyone not familiar with the TT course, this is the bottom of Bray Hill

This has been a really useful thread for me as always wanted to go but didn’t know where to start. As an aside, growing up a friend of mine was Bill Lomas’s son. Had no idea how famous he was (or even what he did!) until years later I took my car in for a service and the mechanic had pictures of him all over the garage.

You could consider the Classic for a first trip - over the August bank holiday this year. Easier to get ferries for, not as crowded. And you get to hear Manx Nortons giving it the full beans over the Mountain

I'd love to go to the Manx but cannot find campsite to take my 9m motorhome. I'd also be relegated to pushbike, as none of my ancient BM's will fit in the garage.

Never been to IoM.

Is the TT a good time to go (as a mildly interested spectator) or would we be best to avoid TT time? Any campsites within walking distance of TT spectating?
TT is obviously the biggest event but if only mildly interested I would recommend th3 classic/ mgp in September. More serious classic bikes etc. The Island is a hidden gem. Well worth a visit, but I would say that as I live there.

That's easily fixed - tent on the back of the Beemer and off you go!

There was a German guy camping last year who'd come on a Cub90, from Germany

I agree. But please note it's in August.

All the campsites will take a 9m motorhome.

It's dead easy if you are prepared to come a week before TT and stay for a week after. That's 4 weeks in total of course. Trying to get a motorhome on the ferry at the start and then off at the end is always going to be tricky.

There's a massively long tag axle IOM registered motorhome on the aire I'm on in Biarritz. I wonder how he copes with the Ramsey hairpin?

The big CoOp wagons get round there every day.

No problem. We are not far from Biaritz right now so at least 2 Manx outfits within a short distance of you👍🇮🇲

If I could be sure of a hard camping pitch I wouldn't hesitate but I've phone 4 sites and they're booked solid for the Manx. With 6 wheels and 5 tons I daren't take a chance on soft ground, as I'll be on my own, so I need to be sure of a hard-ish pitch.

Just an update. If you're coming across to the Isle of Man. Don't forget your sun cream. The weather is perfect. :sun::cool:
Yes, I got burnt in one day up on the mountain at the bungalow last year. The next day if you were up there you would have frozen to death !

I've tried to get a hard standing at Glenlough recently and there's none available. I'm reluctant to go onto a grass pitch as I'm 5 tons.

How heavy is your van? At 5 tons I think a diet is called for. 😀
