Don't bother with the modern pub on the housing estate a few hundred yards out of town from the campsite, it's rubbish. The Millers T'ale micropub in town does good beer, worth the walk down the hill and back.Excellent- staying on Peel campsite and really looking forwards to it![]()
You could consider the Classic for a first trip - over the August bank holiday this year. Easier to get ferries for, not as crowded. And you get to hear Manx Nortons giving it the full beans over the MountainThis has been a really useful thread for me as always wanted to go but didn’t know where to start. As an aside, growing up a friend of mine was Bill Lomas’s son. Had no idea how famous he was (or even what he did!) until years later I took my car in for a service and the mechanic had pictures of him all over the garage.
TT is obviously the biggest event but if only mildly interested I would recommend th3 classic/ mgp in September. More serious classic bikes etc. The Island is a hidden gem. Well worth a visit, but I would say that as I live there.Never been to IoM.
Is the TT a good time to go (as a mildly interested spectator) or would we be best to avoid TT time? Any campsites within walking distance of TT spectating?
That's easily fixed - tent on the back of the Beemer and off you go!I'd love to go to the Manx but cannot find campsite to take my 9m motorhome. I'd also be relegated to pushbike, as none of my ancient BM's will fit in the garage.

It's dead easy if you are prepared to come a week before TT and stay for a week after. That's 4 weeks in total of course. Trying to get a motorhome on the ferry at the start and then off at the end is always going to be tricky. This has been a really useful thread for me as always wanted to go but didn’t know where to start. What? There’s a motorbike and spectators in the pic!!???
And a nice bottom !
Yes, I got burnt in one day up on the mountain at the bungalow last year. The next day if you were up there you would have frozen to death !Just an update. If you're coming across to the Isle of Man. Don't forget your sun cream. The weather is perfect.![]()
How heavy is your van? At 5 tons I think a diet is called for.I've tried to get a hard standing at Glenlough recently and there's none available. I'm reluctant to go onto a grass pitch as I'm 5 tons.
