Is this too adventurous?

Calais to Reims, Reims to Lyons and Lyons to the Alsace are quite slow roads unless there are decent tolls available.
There is a toll road right through and it is fast. We often used to travel (not in a motorhome) to Morzine where we had a chalet and got from door to door in around 12 hrs including the time going through the tunnel.

A lot of roads in France are slow in August. (y)

It can be done but, how much time you will have to enjoy is a different matter. The quickest we have done similar is three weeks and that was driving straight back from Italy (Como) with only one roadside stop.
Happy New Year and safe travels. 👍

Even in August?
It is a plan B. We've had great weather in Luxembourg in August but also had overcast conditions in N and Central France days later.

Many folk suggest the line south of Tours - Troyes has the most reliable weather but there are no guarantees....

Having a range of options depending on the conditions makes the most of the flexibility your motorhome allows.

Can I ask what you mean by slow?
Each of those journeys is 5+ hours ish if you dont use toll roads.
If youre anything like us, then waking up and leaving about 1000 hrs and stopping for a bite to eat and doing a bit of shopping means you might not get to your destination until 1700 hrs, which is in effect a whole day missed on 3 occasions within a fortnights holiday.
The roads used are fine for trundling but they are not fast ones like the luxembourg to Calais which is motorway all the way which is still 4 hours on the presumption you arent caught at Lille

The last time I was in Chenas in 2018 the weather was awesome...34° which was more than hot enough

I ve made Limoges and Moulins after a 12 hour night shift before in a motorhome (+90 miles on UK side) but those roads are heavily free motorway and long straights.
I dont mind doing that once off in a holiday (or twice when returning), but between campsites/aires we do top whack of 50 miles now as you lose a lot of your holiday time travelling between holiday places

It will be interesting to see what we actually do! Chenas is an absolute visit but the rest...part of me is excited to be exploring with no real plan but part of me is worried that we will find no where to stop 🤣..the help and advice from Funsters is invaluable.

I seem to recall that many parts of the UK hit the 30°Cs last summer and dropped to late teens a week later. We always have a plan B... Or a plan C if there is a risk that we will have to avoid areas of very high temperatures.

Get the app, park4night, you will never be short of somewhere to park.

I have the app and Search for sites. I will subscribe to Passion France too, nearer the time.
France passion is every year from about now, so you won't lose anything by getting it now , you will then have time to choose your stops.

If you were heading to the coast mid August booking sites would be essential. Its been 6 years since I needed to travel in the school holidays in August with my wife then working in schools. We then always travelled to Germany , Mid France and Switzerland July/ August time. The French Aires mid France were always available and if by chance you found one full a small drive to the next town turned up trump. Again Germany Stellepatz were always in them norm available. I appreciate you looking for campsites with a pool but mid France campsites are less busy than the coast so you should have a pitch to turn up onto. Have a look at the ACSI campsite web page, I appreciate that school holidays are not discounted but it will show numerous mid France and Germany sites.

Another wrinkle when you are driving long distance is the confusing variance of speed limits on non-motorway roads in France from one Department to another. I hope by the time I go there gain, the Satnav mapping databases will have been updated correctly. Last time I was there it was all 80 km/h on the single carriageways, which was sometimes irritatingly slow, and often ignored by the impatient locals, but at least it was consistent across the country.
