Is this the time for mothballing our motorhomes.

It's as clear as the nose on your face that this year is a total wipeout for motorhoming. How about next year, will you be prepared and ready to get close to other chuggers and tugger's before the Corona jab is available. Lets be realistic this Covid-19 vaccination is not going to be freely available for some time and like influenza the Corvid-19 virus will become a real threat again along with influenza next spring when we, especially older members, will be having their flu jabs. Thoughts..
Yesoy doesn't worry me as I rarely come in contact with people when travelling.
For me it might have ended my European trips for good :( .
This year was going to be my last big tour, anything up to three months, all around the places we have been and loved ,also places we have always said we would go some time.
Don't know if the old legs and body will be up to it next year:unsure::unsure:
Hopefully it won't be.
I would think that none of us will be traveling through France till the need of documents to prove it’s essential travel is lifted, I saw on a hgv forum that is what hgv drivers are having to carry so would think it’s the same for motorhome
Yes it is a complete nuisance.Pity that there isn't some way to bypass the place to get into Germany at least.

True Brains but they have served their purpose for the US. Looking at one of the Russian aircraft carries heading down the channel last year I'm sure they could make use of them.... ;)
Didn't they drag one out years ago & refit it to launch either cruise or nuclear missiles?

I'd love to get away as soon as restrictions are lifted. But won't be.

I can see a lot of the areas I'd like to go being less than friendly for a while after all this.

Might end up having to rejoin CMC to use their CLs. I cant see much chance of wanting to stay on a UK site.

Definitely not, once we can start using our lovely new van then we will. We got it in October and fortunately managed a trip to Beni and were due to go off to the Balkans on the 11th May. It hasn’t been officially cancelled but having seen a photo of the Serbian Coronavirus hospital we wouldn’t go anyway. Straight out of WW2! This is from the Guardian. Don’t think we’ve got much to moan about, this is in Belgrade.

The Russians sold a half built aircraft carrier to a company to convert it into a floating casino
The Casino company turned out to be the Chinese Government
The ship is now the "Liaoning", Aircraft Carrier 001 of the Chinese Navy

Didn't they drag one out years ago & refit it to launch either cruise or nuclear missiles?

They have dragged out the occasional ship from time to time, mostly for testing or training purposes, with a new weapons system the engineers can be given an old spare ship and they can install the new kit to learn how to do it and see what works, and as the ship is just along side a berth it does not matter if the job over runs, or they make changes part way through.
They then remove most of the kit and fit it properly on the active fleet.

The last time the US Navy pulled out a veteran battleship was in the early 1980's when Regan sent in the 'New Jersey' to do a classic full on 'shock & awe' naval barrage of Hezbollah in Lebanon.
They eventually ran out of shells, as none had been manufactured since the 1940's !

Absent the much hoped-for effective vaccine rolled out for everyone, the sort of travel we do (SWMBO's instructions prevail) involving shops, pubs and restaurants, tea rooms and coffee shops etc., with minimal self-catering in the MH, means we won't be using it except as my daily driver.

If I were travelling solo, hermit mode would be OK. I prefer chilling in natural surroundings and observing wildlife, rather than traipsing into towns.

Ferry Harwich/Hook of Holland,
Down through the Alps and the Italian lakes to Genoa,
Ferry Genoa to Barcelona

Sorted!

As much as people want to get out, I bet a big chunk will be wary and wait to see what happens. Ie the 2nd spike.

I've just finished a sci-fi book - well written (for a change) and it is set in the future after a "plague" event. The plague came in three phases, each phase a couple of years apart after the plague virus had mutated. The book was about the plague (it was set much further in the future) but the effects of the plague were part of the background of the book.

The multi-phase of plague made me think as I consider we may well see that especially if the virus mutates. We don't even know if one recovers from the virus one will be immune - or how long the immunity will last - at the moment.

Same here. Much prefer to buy some nice food and eat in the MH whist observing life.

Once things ease and campsites/CLs are open again , with most Brits still at home and not over the channel , finding wild camping or sites to book will be a real problem because every motorhome and caravan will be mobile and the West Country etc will be deluged :Eeek:

I am wondering about age limits I will be 79 in November might have trouble getting insurance to travel abroad. Which I haven’t done as this was planned for this year. Might be that my dreams will be shattered ?

It will also depend on money. If you have not had an income while this is going on you won’t be rushing off anywhere straight away.

Fortunately my SWMBO is not so obsessed with shops and we normally only eat out once or twice a month so not such a problem, if it was possible to get anywhere out of the UK of course. Our MH is a bit big to use as daily transport and as we have three cars as well, a bit superfluous for this purpose, so won't be going anywhere for the forseeable future.

I like to drive. I certainly wouldn't be using anything where I had to have contact with anyone & certainly wouldn't be using barca-genoa both plague hotspots . If there was any possibility of using a boat, which there won't be, it would only be spain > uk.

I would like to say, I wasn't complaining in my first post , just stating facts , what has to be has to be, just think we might all of had Corona then no one is going anywhere.

NOT A CHANCE!! As soon as we can move we’ll go somewhere, I booked a campsite in Germany for the Xmas markets yesterday, we hope we can make it??

I've just fixed my drop down bed, given the van a thorough clean including the roof and fitted air con.
As soon as UK sites open, I plan to go somewhere.
Europe does seem a distant dream though at the moment.

With sadness I also say 'snap'.

No hasty decisions please, just wait and see how things “pan“out.
Ultimately, the U.K. will be busier than ever. Scotland especially.
I know let’s all do the NCR 500 car park.
We have only known complete freedom, things are going to change where borders are concerned and not just because of covid 19.
Im sick of Coronavirus, bring back Brexit !

If it’s on your drive, grab a cup of tea, take some biscuits and chill out in the MoHo ?

Sorry to ask,,,but why?

For us the van is about seeing new places, meeting new people. Lockdown is here for tragically sensible reasons so we won't be going anywhere in the van for ages which we'll miss, but we're a lot luckier than many (so far), but going and sitting in the van on the drive just doesn't do anything except remind us of what might should have been. And, despite it being nice van...the house is more comfy to drink tea in.
