Is there any such thing as a silent genny?

intrigued in what you converting as you seem to have a very long and large list to go in/on it ?

Still a design in progress, but along these lines:

Yeah, our van is a little cramped for two of us and quite a large dog. Plus we'd like to be able to take our ever expanding array of nieces and nephews away at times.

So this is along the lines of what we'll build.

Wissel, if you really gonna have 1000ah of LFP and 1400w of solar, you have no worry to run a AC. Whatever AC you go for, one criteria is a must, it’s got to be a inverter AC, itI’ll have no surge, and the compressor will be variable. The speed will go up and down gradually in line with the demand, making it very very efficient. We run two AC inverters ( started with one) on our off grid house. In summer we can see 36-38C even 40 and all on solar. The most we use 8-9kwh for the hole house, about 6kwh goes to cooling. This is 22C set on auto 24/7. In the van you will be using much less.

... and of course you MUST make room for this ...

A.C. is in itself noisy, especially at night, on a silent campsite. Use fans.

Your figures are to high. A ac will may draw 80a for few mins, but as the temp reaches set point, it will come down considerably. Depending on compressor, but, dc powered compressor is variable. It may only need 300w to maintain the set temp once it got there. I expect 6-7kwh per day if run extensively. You may even get by with 5kwh.
This is true, the reason is when the aircon reaches its setpoint, the power consumption depends on the incoming heat flow that the aircon needs to extract to maintain the temperature. Reducing the incoming heat flow to a minimum will minimise the power consumption. For example, silver reflective external screens on all the windows, and even the roof light. Parking in the shade. Covering the roof with solar panels stops the sun heating that part of the roof. A side awning on the sunny side to shade the side of the MH.

Years ago I remember seeing at a RV show an Onan generator running in the back of an estate car (ducted exhaust) which was the quietest I've ever nearly not heard :giggle: Mind you I think even in those days it was getting on for £4000
Is it really called an ‘Onan’ generator? If so its users must be onanists. A view confirmed by those parked nearby. 🙂

For some things a generator is essential, for a hairdryer for instance but it’s not running for long.

We had an underslung Dometic tec 29 great bit of kit, I know someone with the dead same one but theirs is the lpg version, I was amazed at how quiet it was.

I wonder whether the gen’s fuel is spilt on the ground?

Onan, however, knew that the offspring would not be his; so whenever he had intercourse with his brother's wife, he wasted his seed on the ground, to avoid giving offspring to his brother.

SiL:”Oh Please!, Onan, what’s with the carpet again!?”.

Who would have thought gennies could be such fun? 😂
